a "mind vampire," an exceptionally
rare individual possessing the power
to insert herself into weaker minds
and make others perform heinous acts
for her own viewing pleasure. (see Dan
Simmons' "Carrion Comfort.") so i
followed her on an excursion to the
east end of the island, where she had
her mind slaves cut a cornfield into a
giant chess board, and then she and
her cohort jackie, another vampire,
proceeded to play chess to the death
with their innocent pawns (and
knights, kings, queens, etc.) after a
furious match that left the field
littered with bloody corpses, jen
emerged victorious. all the while, i
could only watch, helpless, from the
concealment of a hedgerow. i could
see her power grow as she fed off of
each move that resulted in death. i
must find some way to stop this
woman. before it's too late for all
of us.
