About Me:
"If ever a band was appropriately named, itA's New Order. Born from the ashes of the pioneering postpunk group Joy Division, New Order virtually invented techno, bringing musical sophistication to dance clubs and propulsive rhythms to alternative radio for more than two decades.
New Order stirred to life in Manchester, England in 1980. Ian Curtis, Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, and Stephen Morris had been playing together as Joy Division for a few years, their brooding and intense sounds drawing critical acclaim for such releases as Unknown Pleasures. Standard-bearers for goth and industrial music, Joy Division was just about to depart for its first American tour when lead singer Curtis, who had long suffered from health problems, killed himself.
It took several months for the remaining members to recover from the shock, but when they did, they reemerged with a new member, Gillian Gilbert, and a new name. New OrderA's first single came out in spring of 1981 and their debut album several months later, sounding much like Joy Division (the single, "Ceremony," was in fact written during the Joy Division days). A strong second album, Power, Corruption And Lies, and another dance disc, "Confusion," earned New Order a place on Quincy JonesA' Qwest label. From 1985 to 1987, the group built its following with an album a year, each including at least one breakout single: Low-Life with "The Perfect Kiss," Brotherhood with "Bizarre Love Triangle," and the compilation Substance with "True Faith." They recently produced the album "Get Rea
