About Me:
I'm an auburn haired biophysics babe. I am a priestess. I think that the gemlike innards of pomegranates and grapefruits are imbued with magical powers. I'm constantly amazed by the fact that I get paid to do what I love. I like orange, the numbers 3 and 9, the New Yorker, Mark Rothko paintings, backgammon, etrogs, feminism, Google, poetry slams, grand slams, the ACLU, melted cheese, Marcel Marceau (z"l), using a micropipette, competition, efficient public transportation, kites, and going to morning minyan.

Who I Want to Meet:
Activity partner: someone who will dance with me. Friend: Someone who will laugh when I start a joke with "So, an electron walks into a bar..."...ok maybe someone who will at least groan? Someone adventurous and reflective. Date: Someone Jewish who is intimately familiar with the frustrations and celebrations inherent in a religious quest. Someone who is simultaneously enthralled and exhausted by the complexity of what it means to be a person of faith. Someone sensitive to the injustice in the world, who makes an effort to alleviate the suffering of others, but who, despite an awareness of the enormity of the task at hand, will laugh and dance and sing and smile.

Most importantly, Jo is the constant reminder that brilliance is alive and well outside the five boroughs.
There. I said it. Now when are you moving back? :-)
Joanna is already a super-famous scientist, but she doesn't tell people, for she is also super-humble. But she'll have no hope of keeping it a secret any longer once she successfully revolutionizes everything. Then people in the streets will say: "Oh! That's Joanna! She revolutionized everything!" You'll see.
This does nothing to impress upon you Joanna's amazing aesthetic sensibilities. She has said that fashion is "celebration and confrontation." Her use of color strikes the viewer like a wrought iron hatchet breaking the shackles of our socialized tedium. "Fashion is born free, but it is everywhere in chains!" she laments.
You'd think, "Wildly, shining poetry and confronto-celebratory fashion, scientific superfame plus rock-star humility, what else can she possibly do?" Trouble is, I've reached the Friendster character limit. No choice: U
Joanna justice. At every turn her
brilliance and intensity are so powerful
that one must move across the country to
reduce the intoxication prior to overdose.
intimidating. After all, she's
brilliant, assertive, super attractive
and reads the New Yorker with a
religious zeal. Plus, she could scramble
your DNA in no time flat (I'm serious -
she does that for a living). When she
says that she dances like a charmed
snake, she's being either modest or
numinous, but it's up to you to figure
out which. Joanna is both open-minded
and opinionated, which is a charming and
rare combination of traits that I think
we all should aspire to. In short,
definitely take the time to get to know
Jo. You'll be glad you did.
parts of my college experience. Seeing
her approach, with her big smile, and
hearing her enthusiastic hello was
enough to make any day a good one.
She's a thinker, a wonderful person to
talk to, and has so many great insights
into the world. Besides that she's one
of the most cheerful people I know. I
consider myself very lucky to have her
has a friend. So all you in Philly- be
good to her!
has served as consultant to a book
about fashion--which makes sense, since
she's one of the few people who can
lend equal pizazz to rock-star
sneakers, hiking bandannas and dresses
that aren't bias-cut. (Not all at the
same time, no.) Actually she doesn't
dance exactly like a charmed snake,
since (a) snakes don't dance in bowling
alleys and (b) snakes have no thumbs.
She's brilliant in at least two ways--
the thoughtful, perpetually-interested-
in-things kind of brilliance that's
quite rare, and the light-up-a-room
kind of brilliance that's even rarer.
fashion sense and make fantastic
tiramisu, she's also one of the best
(now former) roommates ever. She's been
a tremendously supportive and
thoughtful friend. She's definitely the
only person I know who can proudly
display a dead cow rug on her floor and
still claim my friendship.
ball-lightning that bounces around our
lab, making everyone's hair stand up,
setting things on fire, never seeming to
fizzle out. Where she gets all this
spunkitude, I know not. Its awe
inspiring. She's the only person I know
who can out monkey-dance me.
*Definitely* get to know this one.
Also, I believe she has a deep fat fryer
(frier? friar?) in her kitchen. She's
sweet, smart, and wears sassy shoes!
a thinker as Joanna. The gem in the
crown of my Princeton friendships, I
never had to compromise what I most
desired in a friend with Jo: she has
NEVER EVER let me down. Jo is a poet,
a chemist, a hidden dork, a nurturer,
a fun-loving wig-wearer. She cannot
drink worth shit, but there are other
readily-apparent features to recommend
her: lovely hair, lovely laughter,
lovely messiness (but NOT like dirty
messiness), and most importantly, a
great ASS: she is truly the most butt-
alicious person out in Philly, the
City of Many Butts. Never having seen
Joanna's naked butt (friends need
boundaries), I can only say she
manages to clothe hers beautifully.
