About Me:
Having begun operations on February 2, 1900, Manila Bulletin is now the oldest newspaper published in the country and the second oldest English Newspaper in the Far East.
When started publication, the contents of the newspaper mainly centered on the commercial and economic conditions of the country. Its issues focused on business and industry with its advertisements, circulation and clientele. To date, it publishes the Manila Bulletin seven days a week; the Philippine Panorama, the nation’s leading Sunday Weekly Magazines; Tempo a daily English tabloid; Monthly magazines namely, Agriculture to boost food production and promote livelihood programs; Cruising for travel and Animal Scene, the only monthly magazine devoted to pets and their care. The Weekly Sports Digest highlights the latest news in the sports scene, even including instructional materials on various sports activities and campus sports programs.
The Company went public on April 18, 1990. The only public corporation in the country, it had a broad ownership or 3, 131 stockholders as of December 31, 2000.
The Manila Bulletin has also responded to the expanding readership market by shifting from its purely business paper image during its early years, to that of a daily newspaper for every member of the family. From the daily sections featuring business, entertainment, sports and society, the paper editorial department has developed a variety of sections for specific subject like health, construction and real state, agriculture, motoring, food and restaurants, fashion, youth and campus, and information technology. Informative special reports on the widest variety of subjects both in the government and private sectors are published regularly to serve as reference materials, attracting a wide readership in the United States, as reflected by thousands of e-mail reactions received daily.
