Yup. I tried to stay away from it, but it wouldn't stay away from me.
See, there are a bunch of guys out there now making music, guys I even like, with whom Ray is inevitibly going to be compared (rightly or wrongly): Van Hunt, Remy Shand, Saadiq, Dwele. These are all folks who make good music, but love GREAT music. It oozes out of every note. "Why can't I make Talking Book?," they wonder. Ray's earlier stuff shared some of the same yearning (even my fav--Young One).
But this new stuff. It threatens to earn my highest point of praise--not that it's good, or even great, but that it's IMPORTANT.
It is important that we listen to what this is. It is more important that he keep making us.
