Bartz Klauser (Butz Klauser (バッツ・クラウザー, Battsu Kurauzā) in original Japanese language versions) is the protagonist of Square-Enix's Final Fantasy V. He is a twenty-year-old wanderer with a fear of heights, and becomes entangled in the quest to protect the Crystals when he helps Princess Lenna and Galuf escape a goblin-filled area on their way to the Wind Shrine. Bartz is connected to the element of Wind. Bartz is the hero representing Final Fantasy V in Dissidia: Final Fantasy.

Zidane Tribal (ジタン・トライバル, Jitan Toraibaru, /ziːˈdɑːn ˈtraɪbəl/) is the protagonist of Final Fantasy IX. Playful and flirtatious, Zidane displays little of the sullenness associated with previous Final Fantasy protagonists. Zidane has shoulder-length blonde hair tied in a ponytail and a prehensile monkey-like tail, as witnessed in game when Zidane hangs from his tail to evade Steiner. He can either use two daggers or a single swallow-blade as weapons. In trance form Zidane's hair becomes longer, and his clothing is replaced with a furry garment. Zidane is identified as a thief and has the unique ability to steal items from enemies. Zidane is the hero representing Final Fantasy IX in Dissidia: Final Fantasy.

Squall Leonhart (スコール・レオンハート, Sukōru Reonhāto) is the primary protagonist and a young student at Balamb Garden, identifiable by the scar on his face that a fellow student, Seifer, inflicted. He rarely speaks and has the reputation of being a lone wolf. As Squall's story unfolds, he becomes fascinated with and falls in love with Rinoa, despite never outwardly expressing such until the ending. Squall is characterized by forlorn memories of standing out in the rain at the orphanage where he grew up, wondering where "Sis" went. Squall's weapon is a gunblade, a sword that uses components of a revolver to send vibrations through the blade when triggered. His Limit Break is a series of sword strikes called Renzokuken.
