About Me:
Cabot House was formed in 1970 when East and South House were joined. Cabot House's six red brick buildings offer some of Harvard's best housing. Gargantuan suites (a handful with balconies and multiple floors) with beautiful wooden floors and working fireplaces complement the intimate dining hall that looks out on the Quad. "Friendly, diverse, and spirited" is how Cabot residents like to describe themselves, and their resident tutors and effervescent Masters are exceptionally caring and involved.
It is perhaps this sense of community and spirit that are responsible for Cabot's legendary IM victories. Festivities break out with surprising frequency, especially when the glib seniors in the infamous Library Suite (formerly the House Library - and yes, the room actually comes with a set of old books) take matters into their own hands.
Low ceilings, three levels of tables, and a huge, room-length window overlooking the Quad make Cabot's dining hall one of the most intimate on campus. Cabot's bounty of perks includes six beautiful living rooms complete with grand pianos, a computer lab, a dark room, a recently renovated weight room, a reading room, four music rooms, an art studio, and a dance studio - not to mention the grassy Quad. The huge Junior Common Room, along with its stage and theatrical lighting, augments House life with a large-screen television/VCR/surround-sound system, pool table, foosball table, and ping-pong.
Annual traditions include a holiday reading of How the Grinch Stole Christmas as well as the ferocious and bizarre "lambing" given at the Dutch Auction. The Masters' frequent Open Houses and Small-Dinner Colloquia feature buffets attract hungry Cabotians to gorge on fancy foods and gourmet desserts. Sure, Cabot may be far, but even in the dead of winter as the last shuttle screeches off, leaving you to trek through a mile of slush and ice, Cabot residents know that the distance to your House matters less than what you find once you arrive.
