Piedmont California

A vignette of mine around 1889 (whew! a long way before I became chartered as city)

      • About Me:

Neighboring the city of Oakland, the quaint city of Piedmont is able to experience all of the luxuries provided by Oakland, while at the same time, retaining a small-town atmosphere. Incorporated in 1907, the city's 1.8 square miles are completely surrounded by Oakland. The area of Piedmont is mostly residential, as it contains 3,800 homes. Although small, Piedmont is certainly notable. It is famous for having architecturally-renown stately mansions and elegant, turn of the century, single family homes. Throughout the small city, one can find various flower-gardens. These compliment the already stunning scenery. This scenery is conveniently supplemented by the hillsides that provide beautiful views of a San Francisco skyline, complete showing the city, bay and bridges.

Citizens of Piedmont enjoy a mild Mediterranean-like climate. Temperatures during the dry season range from 60 to 80 degrees. During the rainy season, temperatures are generally 40 to 60 degrees. Piedmont is a very attractive place to live for the individual who is interested in relaxing, yet at the same time, remaining connected to the "outside world". Piedmont is truly the best of both worlds. All this is complimented by the beautiful city backdrop.

My population base is just 11,000 people, composed of 77% Caucasian, 16% Asian (mostly Chinese), 3.5% multiple races (mostly Caucasian and Asian), 3% Hispanic, 1% black and less than 20 American Indians and Pacific Islanders. I also have a stable growth rate as well.

In the 1920's, I used to be the "City of Millionaires" because I became the home to the most millionaires per square mile in America at that time. Nowadays, my households' income is about $150,000.

Unfortunately, I do not have a hotel (which was burned down in 1892) nor a factory (which was closed in 1895).

I am also reputated for my excellent schools too, though only 3/4 of my people who have children send them to the schools stated above...

      • Who I Want to Meet:

People who were conceived, lived (or currently live), raised, and grew up (or growing up) in this town...

But of course, Piedmont is also welcome to anybody in the world, that includes my fellow cities in the Bay Area, Oakland (my next-door neighbor and sister city) and its sister cities as well, states, countries and of course.... you!

If you want to add me, my first name is Piedmont and my last name is California.

To clarify myself: I am not ugly. I am seriously a small town, a residental town.

If you really live here, write me a testimonial!

      • Oh Piedmont. I now remember why
we don't speak: your haughty, self-
        righteous attitude and ethnically
        diverse population.

While you may have famous people
from your town, you're surrounded by
Oakland. What a sewer of human
        existence. My neighboring city,
Chicago, is a cultural and economic
center of the United States. Oakland
has little more than poverty and a bad
        baseball team.

        Love,
        Naperville Illinois
