About Me:
The lesson was very brief. From the beginning, the attendees could sense that he was not feeling well. He remained sitting in front of his open books while coffee was being served nearby in the school cafeteria.
A young girl read out loud clearly, articulating each word, just as he liked. In other circumstances, he would have complemented her warmly. But now, he seemed absent, enfeebled. The class lasted fifteen minutes, then he asked to be excused.
"These are the descendants of Aaron and Moses" (Num. 13). Rashi comments: "For what reason are the descendants of Moses not mentioned (and only those of Aaron)? When one teaches the Torah to the sons of one's fellow man, it is as if one had engendered them oneself. The true descendants are students, those whom one has taught."
"You see," says the philosopher, "this is why I stayed. That the true filiation in Judaism is giving instruction."
