About Me:
The land of Tennessee stretches from the scenic Great Smoky Mountains of the east 440 miles to the banks of the Mississippi River in the west. Within Tennessee's 42,145 square miles of scenic beauty and diversity lives the greatest variety of birds of any state in the union.
THE NAME: The state of Tennessee was named after the Little Tennessee River. Originally "Tanasi" the river took its name from two Cherokee villages on its banks.
THE CITIZENS: People who live in Tennessee or who come from Tennessee are called Tennesseans or Tennesseeans.
THE NICKNAMES:The Volunteer State,The Big Bend State,The Mother of Southwestern Statesmen ,The Hog and Hominy State, The Butternut State.
FLAG: The three stars on the flag represent the three different land forms in Tennessee. Mountains in the east, highlands in the middle and lowlands in the west. On the flag these regions are bound together in an unbroken circle. The field is crimson with a blue background for the stars. The final blue strip relieves the sameness of the crimson field and prevents the flag from showing too much crimson when it is limp.

Excerpt from: Oh Tennessee, My Tennessee
by Vice-Admiral William Lawrence
Strong folks of pioneer descent,
Simple, honest, and reverent.
Beauty and hospitality
Are the hallmarks of Tennessee.
And o'er the world as I may roam,
No place exceeds my boyhood home.
And oh how much I long to see
My native land, my Tennessee.

I usually just hang out in the South with the other Southern states, except for Florida. Why bother. Also, I'd like to have a nice long talk with Ohio for the whole Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame debacle.

"The whole Delta comes from remote
plantation and little town. The Peabody has
room for them all. There is no sign of
revolver or bowie knife, both of which
Memphis has know, but swaggering
rowdies, quiet in passage, move through
the lobby just the same. This world still stirs
by the old-time conviction of the Deep
South that a gentleman should eat when he
is hungry, drink when he is thirsty, dance
when he is merry, vote for the candidate
he likes best and be ready to knock down
anyone who questions his right to any of
these privileges. Memphis, corrupt and
content, hard-boiled and romantic, sits
above a gambling land, the Cotton
Kingdom. It is the Paris of the plantation
country. Good cotton-pickers go to
Memphis when they die. Planters hope to
come to the Peabody while still living. Its
lobby is the white man's Beale Street. And
both have seen strutting and hunger and
sometimes both together at the same time."
Memphis is the heart and soul baby. i
miss tennessee. when i return i will kiss
your beautiful earth and perhaps hug a
tree or deer. not in a hippie way, more
like a "god bless the south" kind of thing.
tennessee...what's not to love about
you? well..nevermind don't answer
that. i do love your dirty memphis
streets, your sad bastard music,
and your whiskey that keeps me
seein' double. although i wasn't
born in your loverly borders, i still
call ya home more than i would
anywhere else. yupyup.

well us be governed by France! Go

Nashville, Tennessee. It's the home of
country music, on that we all agree. But
when you cross that old Red River,
Hoss, that just don't mean a thing. Once
you're down in Texas, Bob Wills is still
the king.
southwestern neighbor. The beauty
and hospitality to be found there are
unequalled (outside of my borders). I
encourage all true Virginians who
have not visited the Volunteer State
to hop on Hwy 81 and head over the
hill to sample its wonders and
perhaps reinvigorate your sense of
Southern Hospitality. Nashville is only
a 12 hour drive from Tidewater, so
Virginians west of the Fall line really
have no excuse for not visiting
Tennessee. While Tennessee
sometimes gets on my case about
the number of Yankees now dwelling
within my borders, I would gently
remind him that significant portions of
Tennessee were not particularly
helpful during the Late
Unpleasantness and, while the
presence of those hostile to my
heritage are regrettable, many of the
Yankee invaders of my soil have
adopted my ways and hope to
become true Virginians. Nonetheless,
we all have something to learn from
the dedication to our shared Southern
heritage shown by Tennessee.
my home, the most underrated state in
the country.. not many know of our true
natural beauty.. the Western end of you
is not so great as the Middle and East..
and I will soon call the shaded, magical
forests of the Great Smoky Mountains

gigantic waterfalls of the Cumberland
plateau, to the rolling mountains of the
Smokies... Tennessee.. always sounds
good to me!!

I don't think I'd know what to do with
