great heartache on more than one occasion. She
always looks so forlorn standing there in her little
stocking feet: "Please sir, don't you just have
some little padded inserts? I know we can make
this size 6 work for me." Who's heart wouldn't
ache just a little?
One time I found Amy in the MF shoe
department, barely visible in the middle of a
towering circle of shoe boxes and a flurry of eager
young (male) shoe clerks. She was waiting for yet
another pair, legs crossed, working her way
through the second half of a Deluxe box of
Godiva truffles. To the average passerby this
would appear to be a diva in her prime...but AMY
HATES CHOCOLATE. I got her out of there
quick but I will never forget the look on her face--
the abject and utter disappointment. It was a
close one....
Anyway, I have been thinking about Amy all week
long because of 3 small words: "Tax Free Week"!
