Columbus Legend...ha ha...btw...I know I spelled his
name right! Anyhow, I have known this crazy
sonafabiscuiteater since about 1993, when he was
playing in a band called Body Release. I am also the
only one of you all who has trimmed t's hair (when he
had the dreads up top:)
This goofy human being is also one of the few
people who I can get to talk about composition with,
since i am partially classically trained....but I can never
find him (maybe i ain't cute enough, huh T?:) But way
back when, he and i bonded because of the fact that
when he lived on 17th at the first ele mental house, he
was rockin' semi battle style on the decks...and well I
have known him ever since...I'd tell you stories, but T
wouldn't like the ones I usually tell:)
Like the golden girls (you 83 yr old bastid!), Thank you
for being a friend....

Titonton. One day a long time ago when
I was a raver, I'm thinking '96 or so,
I saw this guy play for a very large
room full of an awful lot of people.
It was a jungle set (this was one of
the folks who helped elucidate the cnx
b/t dnb and minimal techno...who knew?)
and in the middle, while scratching, he
kind of ground to a halt and started
scratching in a sample that said "DON'T
FRONT". Um, WOW. He syncopated the
hell out of that shit..his whole body
pulsed with the enormity and
delicateness of that improvised
abstract riddim. I thought, "oh my
god. Jazz." When he got off, I trailed
him obsessively. When I tapped him and
he turned around he looked like he had
lost his best friend. I said, "Thank
you for that set. It was like Max
Roach." He looked at me incredulously
and said, "You *liked* that?" I looked
back, completely full, and said "Uh
huh." He looked back at me like I'd
found his best friend, como agua de
beber, took my hand, and said, "Thank
you." Since then, we play it real cool
when we see each other, but I like to
give him a little wink sometimes. =)
