About Me:
Over the summer, I lived in New York and every monday night I would go to a bar called Pianos on the lower east side and sing karaoke with my cousin and his friends. Through a process of trial and error, I discovered that I have a singing range almost perfect for Otis Redding's "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay," but unfortunately very little else (If you would like to see a picture of me singing karaoke, you can find one on my cousin's website www.kareemblack.com).
This weekend, I went back to New York and tried to expand my repertoire to include the classic "A Change is Gonna Come." My experiment did not turn out so well, and I ended up clearing the room. As a graduate student in 19th (and increasingly 18th) century French Intellectual History, I apparently do not possess the prerequisite soul. My cousin, on the other hand, killed with a cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit." He possesses the angst of a 15 year old white suburban teen.
