I have donated to many field operations in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, the Balkans and the Americas. I am the first private donor to respond to UNHCR appeals for emergencies and forgotten refugee crises across the globe. I covers all of my expenses when I goes on mission with UNHCR, as well as costs related to my World Refugee Day activities and other refugee advocacy projects.

I am the kind of person who doesn't recognize borders. I don't understand why we think it is okay to keep someone within one border when they are unable to feed their family when they could be getting help somewhere else. I don't see people as different so I don't understand the idea of borders in this world. We cannot close ourselves off to information and ignore the fact that millions of people are out there suffering. I honestly want to help. I don't believe I feel differently from other people. I think we all want justice and equality, a chance for a life with meaning. All of us would like to believe that if we were in a bad situation someone would help us.

I would love to quit acting, but I am aware I can do more good as an actress than just working in the field. That is something I have to accept. I am more successful as an actress and an activist than just as an activist. Throughout my acting career, there has always been something missing; I had never felt totally fulfilled until I started my work with UNHCR. Refugees have done more for my heart and my spirit than I can ever express in words.
