If there's one thing I learned in the past few months, it is this: Whatever it is, if it's not love then it's ego.

Amiri Baraka once said, "All art is political. If it's not, then it's fascist. Unfortunately, I have Kant on my shoulder telling me that what I know of Art is a priori. Does that make me fascist? All I know is that I've had a particular temperament since birth - exegesis of existence. Art - beyond the image - is my connection to my Self, the Other, the banal, the divine and to the imagination. So the Art inscribed in the platform of paper with a ball-point pen and the occasional acrylic does not completely capture me as it captures an essence of me. In the tableau of moments in the past quarter of a century, I am only a writer, a dreamer, an artist, a thinker, a feminist, a thespian and yet I am also none of these. I embody the message so don't kill the messenger whatever message I carry. I am a Chinese-Filipino immigrant pledging allegiance to the American Dream of hot showers, meritocracy, the right to become a Howard Stern or Arnold Schwartznegger, the Green Card and consequent Citizenship and the privileges of not having to endure embassies asking for countless documentation so you can get a visa to their countries because they think you'll be an illegal immigrant and all that jazz. In the meantime, I am a part-time employee at a Clowning Agency painting faces and making balloon animals usually in the projects of New York City. So keep the clown suit off of me, commission a ball-point pen tree drawing today. I am also working on a solo-show projected for public and mass consumption in 2008. All proceeds will go to pre-production and production costs of this piece.
