Start operates on 4 January 1982, named as Sekolah Menegah Rendah Jalan Loop. 4 January 1982, there are 14 teachers, 310 students and 9 office staffs. The first principal was Mr. Kuan Man Sang.
At first, this school has 2 blocks which has 13 class rooms, 3 laboratories, 1 office room and 1 teachers room.
1999, Sekolah Menengah Rendah Jalan Loop has been changed to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bukit Mewah. This name was suggested by ex-principal, Mr. Chor Swee Meng at the PIBG meeting, The purpose is to change the perception about the school's image.
And the new pricipal for SMK Bukit Mewah is Mr. Wong Kam Piew.
