A college friend identified me as a "long-haired hippie freak, type 4." I'm fuzzy, leftist, Jewish, musical, animal-loving, and irredeemably silly.

Several years ago, I took a three-year-old boy into my life, who was not mine but whose mother I loved. He ultimately spent years with me, and that experience quite reformed my vision of myself. That relationship is over, and I'm still close with that boy.

I'm a thirty-seven-year-old high school math teacher, working in the (South) Philadelphia public schools, trying to make a difference. This is a fairly new career for me; I used to work with computers but chose to leave when I realized there was no soul to it. Making a go at helping my kids learn, and working on my M.Ed. at Temple University.
