      • i used to enjoy michael's well-timed
rants on the senate mailing list back at
reed. now i enjoy them on his blog. i
have to say his spelling seems to have
        improved since he entered graduate
school. i don't know about his
        handwriting though.

      • I am still trying to convince mike to
convert to the true religion and and
the one who died for his sins, if he
will continue to ask himself, WWBJD
(What would Bobby Jackson Do), he will
go far in life. Mike has been a true
friend from high school to reed. Mike
is a very kind and sincere friend,
whose word is as good as gold.
Despite those faults he is a believer
in the redemptive power of Bobby
Jackson, so what more could one ask
for (except for maybe a championship)?

      • Michael possesses an unparalleled intelligence
& a hilariously caustic wit. I was lucky to be a
fellow history major with him at Reed - he is
an inspiring man with whom to study & think.
In the end, I think, my reverence for him goes
back to our first meeting at the Happy Belly
Deli, our long drive from Oakland to Ayelet's
house, and then all the way to his yellow
        happy face shirt...

      • It's interesting to note that Michael
could do anything he wants in his
life, and is capitalizing on it. A
rare trait to have, and it says
volumes about the man. I met Michael
early on in high school, and have
always been impressed by the subtle
        genius that follows him everywhere.
His ability with the english language
leaves me with the impression that he
knows more than I do. After a few
years of friendship, I came to know
this is not true, but I still like him
anyway. He's a good friend to have,
and it's the kind of friendship that
will last. He also plays a mean game
of chess, assuring him a position as a
general in my Army of Doom.

      • A high-calibre human being who gave me
pointers about chicks and is an
excellent writer. He did a screenplay
sometime back that I loved and got to
play in and then he posts these things
about Jews, Drinking, and Pool Skills
that are some of the finest off-topic
        musings around, topical or otherwise.
He is the only reason I would ever
wittingly move to LA, apart from a legit
        job working on movies.

      • You gotta watch out for Michael. He
seems harmless and dorky at first, but
        eventually you'll realize that he's a
        subversive whiskey-swilling
        n'er-do-well. He has the remarkable
ability to make anybody who deserves it
look like a fool, while somehow not
being an asshole himself. He's also
hilarious and willing to work himself
into the ground to fulfill his obligations.

      • michael let me pummel shuttlecocks
into him for an hour at a time, three
days a week. he also humbled me by
refusing to buy me a sandwhich from
        commons.

      • i already posted this testimonial, but
then deleted it in horror when i
        realized i'd written "are" instead
of "our", an unforgivable mistake on
the home page of a perfectionist.
        here 'tis again, improved: well,
michael benson is great. he and i and
OUR friend rick were in the same class
freshman year, in which we looked
scornfully around the room and made
        snyde but insightful comments about
what thucydides really meant. we called
mike mumbles then, because his comments
were never meant to be heard, and he
always sat in the corner, in the dark.
he's a guy who's sneaky and always up
to something, with shifty eyes, and you
always want to be in on the secret. he
may not want to be liked, but everyone
likes him. move to DC, mike? come on,
        just do it.
