Ariel Atienza

He started doing comics ever since he was 5 after being heavily influenced by the first showing of Voltes V and other Japanese robot animation during the mid-70s along with various foreign and local artists like Walt Kelly, Larry Alcala, and Nonoy Marcelo. His first comic strip was published in 1993 in GLITTER Magazine (June 1993 – July 2000). He moved on to create more comics and contribute spot cartoons in other publications like Fusion Magazine (July 2003 – December 2003), LIVEtheLIFE Magazine (November 2004 ), and Candy Magazine (March-June 2000). He also contributed 12 pages to the Palanca Award-winning anthology, Siglo: Passion. His current work is seen in the US in the weekly paper, Philippine News, published in San Francisco, California (Oct. 2002-Aug. 2008) along with fellow cartoonist Pol Galvez, his works also appeared in PsiCom Publishing’s Topak and Nosebleed Magazine.

He’s also one of the founding members of Artists’ Den, an umbrella organization of artists aimed to finding their niche both creatively in the marketplace, and the group who organizes the annual Komikon, the first and only convention solely dedicated to Philippine komiks artists and cartoonists, and Samahang Kartunista ng Pilipinas. He has also held various seminars tackling basic comic creation in different schools and universities like Ateneo, UST, DLSU, CSB, Mapua, FEU, etc. He lives in Mandaluyong City.
