Yesterday I saw makeup (lipgloss? mascara?...something in a tube) behind a woman's feet. She was reading and I just couldn't get up my nerve to try and get her attention to ask if it was hers. I swear, for ten minutes i sat there, trying to put it out of my mind, but really I kept being drawn back to that tube and rehearsing in my head how I could ask her if she had dropped it. Then I became aware of how fucking neurotic i am and it just got worse. I started asking myself "what kind of person are you? the kind who would let someone get off a subway, having possibly left their makeup behind?". This situation started to get out of hand in my head, but then - she looked up! So I quickly caught her eye and muttered something about "maybe you dropped..." while doing the universal hand gesture of screwing a the top back on a tube of mascara...
