Who I Want to Meet:
Only fun people, smart, witty, talented, losers please
apply as well. In fact I like all people. Those with
wrinkled brows will be given due consideration.

to make the multimedia
think of us" This was a slogan that
Marc once coined for whatever it is
that he does. You don't have to
understand it. Just know that the
Canter magic will make secretly
everything a little bit better.
creeps up on you, like certain kinds of
herb. You think everything is going to
be perfectly normal and suddenly you
are blessed with a spontaneous meal,
wise counsel, or an new invention. He's
definitely the sort of friend you want
on your side. He has a knack for
getting people out of absurd
situations. Once upon a time at one of
his shindigs that was crashed by 2000
(I kid you not) dotcommers, the police
came by to kick out all the riff raff.
They had our friend Tom handcuffed
ready to throw him in jail and Marc
somehow, in the midst of chaos, sweet
talked the law into letting him go.
This was the Alice in Japan party that
Marc and I instigated on the grounds of
his wonderland home: costumed Alice's
serving cosmos and Marc charming
everyone faster than they could
drink 'em,
Retro porn and 3D astrology projected
on the walls outside,
street band scraping washboards, an
honest-to-goodness Mad Hatter Tea Party
complete with proper campfire
halucinations. So sorry you missed it;
I always say it's the best party I ever
threw.
Canter and I do not think I can fit
them all into one testimonial. I may
have to write three. I had the good
forune of holding court on Marc
Canter's estate for quite some time. In
other words, he let me throw legendary
parties at his place, set me up my
office with a view, and taught me more
about being an entrepreneur than any
book or class ever could. Marc is a
genius and his ideas are so novel and
avant garde that most people are not
ready for them. I thank my lucky stars
I met Marc one fateful day in an
erstwhile tailor-shop-turned-speakeasy
while he was entertaining the hipsters
with his opera and mischief. He'd lead
you to believe that he is simply "a
gritty wisened old timer" but I know
Marc has a spunk and sparkle that will
turn your world upside down. I have had
more surreal moments with Marc than any
other friendster.
launch party for a startup I was involved in in
London in1990. He also insisted that we all
got bought as much RAM as our Macs could
hold (8Mb in those days).
Then he went off to become a rock star or
something, and I din't see him again until this
year, when blogs brought us together. Marc is
guaranteed to have the loudest voice at any
party...
Texas is how I remember Marc.
Belting Verdi, tossing code, packing
goodness in overload!
Francisco but on the basis of that my advice is
if you ever get invited to eat with Marc then go
for it - this man knows good food when he
sees it!
agency. We seem to bounce ideas off of
each other well, too.
most animated guys I know. Must be
experienced in full motion to get the
full effect, but he "rocks the house."
First met Marc in Tokyo when he was
doing the Macromedia thing at the
Makuhari Macworld Expo thing, when
everyone was into the multimedia/new
media thing.
Now Marc's my bloggin' buddy and one of
the people thinking about what this all
means to me, us, them, everybody.
