About Me:
At Georgetown Day School, we strive to create the best
possible school world for the students and families we
serve. We expect students to respect others, to appreciate
others' successes, and to work hard toward their own. GDS
graduates leave with a love of learning, an abhorrence of
bigotry and intolerance, a broadly rounded fund of
knowledge, and the ability to enter the great conversations
of life. Also, our high school building is shaped like a toilet.

of my life! Who here remembers how awesome
Gladys was? And how great the song, "Wadly-ah-
cha" was? I was sick and tired of it when I left in
9th grade, but I have some sweet memories!
Clay and Nooman made quite a team, though I
don't know that Nooman ever forgave me for
forsaking GDS for the geek academy (thanks
Eliza). Paul was another favorite, along with
Mary-Lou. And we can't forget Lisa. Who else
had Lisa? I remember she left GDS for South
America after my 3rd grade year, and we were all
sad. Here's to Country Campus, Turkey Run, the
Chesapeake Bay, and Camp Friendship. Oh yes,
and the fearsome foursome =) Take Care
Everybody!
Moore!), a St. Alban's student named
Chas attempted to hit on me. When he
found out where I went to school, he
smirked, "Ah, GDS... Where the guys are
geeks and the women are beautiful."
Sure, it was a line, and no, it didn't
work. But when I shared it with my
female friends later, we agreed that
Chas might have been on to something.
Just for the record, Gary McCowan would
have caught Chas' improper use of
parallel construction. I still have
all the papers I wrote for that man,
including his typed and numbered
commentaries on every single error he
found! What an amazing teacher, and
what an intense school.
bought my own weight in cocaine for
what my parents paid to for me to go
there. But then I wouldn't have the
memories...that, and the bitterness.
Still, here's to Friendship Hunan, the
Cool Nerds, GDHS Theater, a bunch of
great teachers, Safeway,
faking "community", Paul Levy's
eyebrows, voting Fil, that weird
maroon stripe on the first floor
hallway, an assload of homework, and
having a grasshopper for a mascot.
What a hippie school. Then again, I
probably would have gotten my ass
kicked a lot at any other high school,
so I think I'm glad I went there.
GDS alums... Ah well. I remember
the apartment building come high
school, hiking the apalachian trail
with my kindergarten classmates in
1977 and the strangely disconcerting
feeling one gets from never knowing
your GPA or the last names of your
teachers.
Thanks for the early validation for
critical thinking, for the painful yet
useful reminders that life is rarely fair
and for the opportunity to be a greek
goddess.
Now excuse me while I go eat some
prunes.
