Pong (Vocalist/Lyricist) and Verting (Guitarist) have got a good thing going, and they dont mess with it. The guitarists Verting and Oli have created their sludgy, pinoy rock using Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden- derived riffs as the main ingredients. By adding their own thrashing style and distorted boogie sensibilities theyve made Skinless the pinoys answer to the foreign artists like Suicidal Tendencies and Biohazard. All they need now is to break through commercially, and their new formula might do the trick. 11 years ago this group died naturally because most of the members had just started their own families that need full time support and attention. The year is 2005, Pong and Verting got in touch with the rest of the group planning for a comeback. Most of the groups lineup has been restored except for Dward(ex-bassist) and Sonic(ex-Drummer who actually played for a couple of gigs but later didnt work out due to conflicts with his schedule), and the band members familiarity is reflected in the knotty, lurching riffs and rhythms they navigate. When Verting and Oli trade Iron Maiden- style solos over the slamming drums of Jaboyshet (Drummer), the trip-hop fills and percussions of Gagal and Nosi along with the sticky baselines of Jo2 (Bassist), the groups vision comes into sharp focus. Pongs lyrics, while still caustic and angry, have become increasingly vague, the targets of their ire less specific, which leaves his words open for interpretation while adding a dose of mystery, moving them beyond the hard core fury of the bands past. Skinless thrives on the sludge and debris of metals lowest reaches, but their new sound should take the band higher than its been before. Elsewhere this proficient group visits other rocking signposts from the 80s (including Slayer and Megadeth on the same song) while showing rock improvisational power. This Quezon City-based 7 man team stretches its hardcore paws even further out into other musical genres.
