apart, I love the fact that I always
feel like myself when I am with Casey.
There are few people with whom I can be
so silly or so serious, simultaneously!
She is a diaster when driving, a diva
when singing, and a delight when
dancing! I fondly remember going with
her to prom, sneaking out with her in
high school to gay night clubs, and
people assuming we were on drugs
because we were so damn happy
        together! Whatever people say about
her, it is probably half truth and half
        desire!

      • What can I say about Casey that hasn't
already been said? She has an amazing
        personality, a beautiful voice, an
        incredible sense of humor, fantastic
drawing skills, a gorgeous face and
body, and to top it all off, she is
        extremely intelligent. I think she's
probably the biggest slut I know.

        prowess.

      • When I first thought about writing a
testimonial for Casey, I wanted to
write a funny one like other people had
done. After all, Casey is very funny
herself and has a superb sense of
        humor. Then I realized I didn't need
to be funny because Casey is inherently
interesting. I decided to instead just
describe her as she is, which might be
particularly helpful to those who met
her later in life and wondered, has she
always been as she is? As someone who
first met her when she was just half as
old as she is now, I can answer that
yes, she is and always has been the
Casey that we all know and love.

For me, it's really impossible to
describe Casey without beginning at the
beginning - the first time that I met
her. It was a warm September day, and
it was my first day in the sixth grade
        class at Edward Kemble Elementary
School. After a few weeks at my old
school I decided to switch schools
because Edward Kemble had a better
curriculum, and a space finally opened
up. My first distinctive memory of
Casey is on the playground. I saw a
girl with sandy blonde hair that could
        perhaps be described as "full
        or "voluminous. But what really
captured my attention was what she was
wearing - a black dress that had
surfers and sharks all over it. I
don't think I'd ever seen a little girl
wear a dress that had anything but
flowers or rainbows. Fascinated, I had
to find out where she had gotten it.
Casey told me that she'd picked out the
fabric herself, and her mother sewed it
into a dress. She even had a scrunchie
to match. (To be completely accurate -
and I'm nothing if not accurate - this
wasn't the first time that I saw Casey,
just the first time that I met her. I
had visited her sixth grade class once
before, but Casey must have been
dressed like a normal girl that time
because I didn't remember seeing her.)

That dress fascinated me to no end, and
I came to learn that it represented two
        of Casey's most characteristic
        qualities. First, it indicated how
creative Casey is. Back in sixth grade
and junior high, Casey always came up
with the most creative ways of doing
her school projects, and she always
showed artistic talent. She can draw,
write, sing and act. These talents
allowed her to express herself in
unique ways. For example, back in
Sacramento she had a house on Evros
        River Court. Unfortunately, her
neighbor Richard Cybert was a total
creep (or, as Sam Cochran might
describe him, a Bozo). Mr. Cybert
hated the Cochran children and harassed
their poor family. To deal with her
        frustrations, Casey wrote an amazing
        illustrated book chronicling her
family's travails with him. It was
even bound, and it was fantastic.
Anyone who knows her now can she that
she continues to be artistic, although
she seems to operate on a higher
        creative plane than others (as
evidenced by the fact that most literal-
        minded people apparently didn't get
her "Pink Slip costume for Halloween).

The second quality embodied by that
        black shark dress is Casey's
        individualism. Casey has never tried
to be anyone but herself, and she
doesn't mind being different. It would
never have occurred to me or anyone
else I knew to wear a dress that had
sharks all over it. To Casey, it was
no big deal. And she didn't care that
other girls in our sixth grade class
        were committed to wearing exclusively
        conservative Esprit couture. But this
        individualism stretches far beyond just
her dress. She has never been a
conformist. That's why she was willing
to move to the opposite end of the
country to go to an alternative'
college where she didn't know anyone.
I could go on and on about how much of
an individual Casey is, but it's
probably unnecessary - anyone who meets
her can see that she's absolutely
unique. But it was a quality I have
        always admired, because adolescents are
particularly prone to trying to fit in
and conform. For me, Casey was always
        a role-model who showed me that there's
no need to be like everyone else, or to
worry what other people are thinking.
I like to think that when I wear my
bright red knee-high boots to law
school or some other ensemble that is
out of the norm for those conservative
        law-types, I'm paying Casey a small
        tribute.

Finally, a third quality of Casey's
that was apparent since that first day
is Casey's kindness. She went out of
her way to be nice and welcoming, and
I've never seen her be anything but
that to any person she meets. Casey
reaches out to people and makes friends
constantly. She's just genuinely nice -
I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure
she doesn't have a mean bone in her
body. As a result, she has many
friends and is popular wherever she
goes - whether it be at Bennington
College in Vermont, hanging with the
hosts of Yo! MTV Raps in New York City,
or in the cosmetics department of the
Bon Marche in Seattle. The few people
who have ever disliked Casey always
dislike her for one of two reasons: 1)
they want to be the most creative and
popular person, and feel threatened by
her, or; 2) they are Casey's friends,
but become jealous because that she has
so many other friends. There have been
more than just a couple girls who have
idolized Casey, and been unable to deal
with the fact that they couldn't be
her, and couldn't have her all to
        themselves. But besides those few
exceptions, Casey is very popular and
        admired.

There are so many other qualities I'd
love to highlight, but this testimonial
is already way too long. So I'll close
by mentioning that many of the most
amazing experiences of my life, be they
the funniest, the scariest, or the most
        exciting, have involved Casey. Anyone
who is fortunate enough to spend a
significant amount of time with Casey
will also have many amazing stories
involving her. That's probably what I
like most about Casey - she always
        makes life interesting. This world
would be a better place, and certainly
much more enjoyable, if there were more
        like her.
