as a birthday gift to my sister Melanie.
The present was that I'd be vegetarian for
30 days. Melanie used to make deals
with her friends that if they went
vegetarian for 30 days that she'd take
them out to dinner. So I figured she'd
appreciate the gift. I don't remember
particularly caring about animals
beforehand, but once I went vegetarian
and no longer had any personal interest
in the whole business it allowed me to
see eating meat for what it was - the
cause of immense animal abuse and
environmental destruction.
On the first day of my vegetarianism I
forgot about the whole thing and ate
some sausage. But within a month I
realized just how stupid-simple being a
vegetarian is. There is food without meat
EVERYWHERE. That's when I realized I
needed to go the extra mile and go
vegan. I made that transition about 6
weeks into the whole deal. HAPPY
BIRTHDAY Melanie - you've made an
amazing positive impact in my life.
things about Melanie in a little box...first
off, Melanie is a woman who has never
stayed inside the box...always creative,
always imaginative, always hopeful, and
always a friend who will be there for
you, Melaine is a gem of a person. I
have so many fond memories with
Mel...from our infamous "Color Caper"
scavenger hunt, to our covetous,
homemade "most likely" badges, to
our "fashion shows" at the mall, to
baking my first cake, Mel was always
up for fun, adventure, and new ways to
enjoy life! Melanie is a one of a kind
person. Not only is she a downright riot
to be around, but is also one of the
most aware, intelligent and dedicated
people I've ever met. She is not afraid
to be her fabulous, original self, and
being around that kind of genuineness
is intoxicating. She makes me feel
completely loved and accepted for who
I am, and that is a great gift, that I will
always treasure. Thanks Mel, for
yourself
sunny and caring and funny and wise.
She knows everything and everyone.
We've come a long way from our days
of Festival hatred, and I was delighted
to see Mel's smiling face at my
wedding. I know we'll always be friends,
however distances and professions
may change. And I know Mel will always
be there with wise words, a joke, an
interesting event to attend, a calming
presence, or a rousing Bartlett game:)
Whenever I think of the ways Mel has
touched my life and helped change the
world, I think, "Wow! Someone so cool
and on the ball hangs out with me??"
This girl is one to watch, believe me.
Everything she touches turns out better.
She's warm, supportive and cool.
She's interested in all kinds of cool
things. When we worked together, I
could always count on Melanie to help
me know what's cool. Now we don't
work in the same office anymore, so I'm
hoping that she'll help me stay in the
know through Friendster! Thanks, Mel,
for being a good friend :)
invite you to join, give you a testimonial even
though you've changed your name and never
told her, and then write you another
testimonial - even if the whole time you've
been a listless friendster.
Melanie makes a great friend too! When I first
met her I thought she was the toughest
person I knew, but she still made time for
giggles, prime time TV, and me.
what an angel!!!
trouble everywhere she goes. If only
the world were as progressive as
she...
always excited to go dancing, try new
restaurants and to go to many a many
happy hour (even though she doesn't
drink). She doesn't even get annoyed
when I ask her if she wants ice cream
or some other cheesy food product
(she's vegan). She's a great person to
talk politics or gossip about hotties
with. I'm sooo excited to take on Las
Vegas with Melanie as one of my
seasoned guides.
