Martin. Here goes: Martin and I ran
track together for a year in high
school. I'm not one to harp on the
good old days, but I owe most of my
left wing crazy liberal thinking to
Martin. No joke! He turned me on to
WVUM, the local University's radio
station. This was at a time in my
life when I listened to mostly 103.5
and Power 96. "That's no big deal!"
you are thinking, I'll wager.
However, it was on WVUM that I first
heard the Dead Kennedys, Black Flag,
They Might Be Giants, assorted
others. A truly horizon widening
experience. The rest was downhill
from there. I admired Martin then
(didn't always show it, natch) and I
admire him even more now. He played
weird music instruments and wore Che T-
Shirts.
I'd like my kids, if I have any, to
turn out like Martin. Irreverent,
talented, intelligent. What more
could you ask for?
I don't even know why he bothered going to
college because his mind is so advanced and
his skills so stellar that why would he want to
spend time in a small Pennsylvania town? But
I'm glad that he did, because he's a deeply
warm, generous person with a great deal to
give and teach. Also, he gave the best parties,
one of which was the first time I ever got sick
from alcohol. After destroying both the party
buzz and his bathroom, I slept on his couch
and he chastely gave me my shirt back before
I went to classes the next morning. That was
really nice.
body and soul to each test, elequently
deciphering the sounds and sights
surrounding, people places and
platitudes; dialectial didact-ivities
beyond.
Googled. Thanks Martin! He's a very
warm, talented and friendly guy and I
look forward to getting know him better.
most talented peeps I know.
