After seeing the local underground music scene nearly dead, Jose Ramon Calixto (Story of My Scab) with the assistance of Rage Lugo (Kill Mickey) came up with the idea to pattern USA’s Drive-Thru Records, and by a long shot, hoping to resuscitate the scene in Cagayan de Oro City which was slowly eaten alive by the mainstream media. Aiming to help underground and unsigned bands promote their music, the result was Corridor Music Group which came to life in December of 2004.

During that time, Iligan City already had a strong underground foundation through Defiance Network while CDO was still an infant looking for a mother’s care, CMG was then the answer. Jay-R and Rage saw the opportunity to create ties and connect both their scenes to further amplify the movement.

Strategically located in the Northern shores of Mindanao, Philippines, the two cities are linked via the “corridor” connection, thus the name was taken.

Of course it wasn’t easy from the start but Corridor Music Group would remain strong and would create a big bang during its younger years. More and more underground bands in CDO came to life and were active as ever. Kids were in a frenzy and would flood every venue during CMG shows. Even bands from neighboring cities like Iligan, Malaybalay, Ozamis, Davao, and Cebu to name a few, would oftentimes play in CMG-sponsored events. It was louder than ever and the mainstream media couldn't do nothing to stop it.

Bands like Story of My Scab, Felicity, The Superflirts, Picking Up Carrots, Boobietrap, Four Pointed Star, Ecru La Dacapo, Smoking Kangaroos, Canadian Kind, Last June, and several others were the first batch of bands that were adopted to the roster of Corridor Music Group. They were given the first chance to push their music to the limit. Some of them are already disbanded while the others are still existing.

It was really an answered prayer for the CDO underground scene as Corridor Music Group would harbor such bands and continually create an atmosphere of free music. Not knowing what will happen to the future of these bands, CMG will always be there to guide them whether they make it or not. And as for the scene, CMG will be struggling hard to maintain producing more and more quality bands for the kids to enjoy.

At present, Corridor Music Group is solely based in Cagayan de Oro City and still continues to create ties with its Iligan City counterpart Defiance Network. From the very start of its existence, CMG provided a family to these bands and to the kids in the scene. As long as there will be kids hungry for loud, fun, and interesting music, Corridor Music Group and its bands will be there for them.
