Saw 'em tear the roof off a house in
Olympia a few back and it was
awesome! Big ups to this cat.
the Living Room, March 17th 1995. The
headliner was The Swingin' Utters. The
opening band was one that completely
changed my life. That band was The
Stuck Ups and Dan was the guitar
player. Dan's guitar licks inspired me
to start a band and I did. I wanted to
change the world. I didn't exactly
succeed but I met a lot of cool people
along the way. I thank Dan for
indirectly getting me off my butt and
out in the real world.
called "picnic with a gun" in 1992 I
think. Dan was into the bluse a lot
then. The band was kind of techno meets
politics meets they might be giants. We
became friends and hung out quite a
bit. A few people including me never
thought Dan would last at all in the
bay area. We were wrong. Dan Does not
like mayonase at all.
rip 80's R&B licks like no other white
guy. When I first met him on the
Stonin' & Bonin' Tour, I felt like we
had hung out at summercamp when we were
like 10. Maybe we water ballooned
someones cabin at 3:00 AM or
something. Out on the road we had a
blast and talked about all kinds of
cool shit. Mount Shasta will never be
the same. Dan is one of the coolest
and laidback guys I have met and will
trip out at the drop of a hat. He is
also more than happy the rock The Jets
at a late night dance party. Peace.
Barbara and were destined to be the
biggest band on TRL. But he hated
Carson Daly and refused to be in a band
which would be seen on MTV and then
left us while the cameras were rolling
for the soon-to-be hit video. I'll
never forget those nights in the tire
shop practicing to the wandering
drunks. I'll tell Carson you said
what's up.
I got to know him real well. I played
many tricks on him and he was always
such a good sport. The first thing I
think of about Dan is how fucking
fantastic he is when it comes to
writing and playing music. This is
someone you will want to keep track
of. He is going places! I've got to
see him play in many different types
of bands and had a blast listening and
dancing to them all! Keep it up!
layers of a beautiful, thousand year
old tree--strength that is formidable,
silence that speaks volumes, magic that
is unexplainable. And, if you listen
closely enough, he is telling the
funniest joke you have ever heard.
He's a dream bandmate and one of my
closest friends.
scrappin' and mixin it up, havin' the
time of his life. I recall one
particular time when we were hanging
out at the bar in the Hotel Congress on
a blazing hot August afternoon. Some
guy felt free to sit down with us and
tell us all about the "woodshedding" he
was doing and how he blew all his dough
on a hooker down in Nogales. Good
stuff...
at his photo: you know not what could
lurk beneath, and then: BLAM!
creativity, technique, and dare i say,
genius. dan is secretly the funniest
person i know, and one of my favorite
draw-ers, as well as a chilling expert.
