RP conquers Guam in HSBC rugby final

MANILA - The Philippine Volcanoes have been promoted to the HSBC Asian Five Nations Division II after sweeping the final Saturday afternoon in Parañaque City.
The Philippines dominated Guam, 25-0, as stated on the event’s official website www.a5nrugby.com
The Philippine rugby team was seeded first in the HSBC Asian Five Nations Division III while Guam was the second seed.
Prior to the final, the Philippines team also scored a shutout win over Iran last Wednesday, 15-0. Guam, meantime, defeated Indonesia, 23-3, to set up a finals rematch with the Philippines.
Saturday’s final was supposed to be a chance for Guam to get back at the Philippines after the RP team beat Guam, 20-8, at the Guam Regional Tournament in 2008.
With the Division III win, the Philippines will next face Thailand, China and India in the HSBC

Philippines beat Iran in a5n Div 3 Rugby tournament today.
Hi All,
The Philippines has gone through to the finals on Saturday July 4 of the Asian 5 Nations Div 3 Rugby tournament in Manila by beating Iran 15-0 15minutes ago. With Filipino-Australian players scoring all the points with Matthew Saunders bagging 2 tries and Raf Zappia potting over a conversion and a penalty goal. Both are previous and current Parramatta 2Blues RFC players respectively.
Note both tries by Matt Saunders were set up by his brother and also a former Parramatta 2Blues RFC player Oliver Saunders.
Guam defeated Indonesia 23-3 earlier on this afternoon.
So on Saturday July 4 the Philippines v Guam in the finals the winner being promoted to Div 2 of the A5N series, with Indonesia and Iran playing for 3rd place position.
