About Me:
The Kenny Rogers Roasters concept was first introduced in 1991 by one of the original developers of Kentucky Fried Chicken, and the entertainer Kenny Rogers. Both men were drawn to the idea of serving home-style family foods based on a menu, which is centered around wood- fire rotisserie chicken. Their unique proprietary marinade and spice formula, combined with wood-fire roasting in a specifically designed rotisserie, became the basis of a breakthrough taste in rotisserie chicken. The menu, design and service style were created to position the concept midway between quick-serve and casual dining. This format, coupled with a customer friendly building developed for dine-in or take-home consumers became the precursor of the Kenny Rogers Roaster system.
By 1995 the menu had expanded to include Kenny Rogers Roasters' original wood-fire rotisserie chicken, fresh-made side dishes, rotisserie turkey breast, and honey- bourbon barbecue ribs, as well as pita sandwiches, soups and salads. Then and today the company continued to emphasize fresh-made product and its wood-fire roasted chicken as family and individual meals. The company experienced its greatest growth period during the mid-1990's, expanding to approximately 350 restaurants. Roasters continued to grow domestically and internationally. Restaurants were introduced in Canada, the Mid East and Asia.
In 1998, the company went through a restructuring that culminated in the acquisition of the Kenny Rogers Roasters system by Nathan's Famous, Inc. on April 1, 1999. Today, Kenny Rogers Roasters is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nathan's Famous, Inc. (NASDAQ: NATH). Nathan's Famous is known for its world-renowned frankfurters and French fries, which were first introduced in Coney Island, New York in 1916. The Kenny Rogers Roasters system operates in the State of California.
