It is sickening to see that a person with supposedly strong academic credentials and high religious stature can produce such cruel and heartless remarks over the issue of Teoh Beng Hock’s unborn child.By twisting a dreadful tragedy with his zealous agenda against “bastard children” in his Utusan Malaysia article, Dr. Mohd Ridhuan, the vice-president of the Malaysian Chinese Muslim Association, has caused immense emotional damage to Teoh’s family.Whatever superficial sympathy Dr. Mohd Ridhuan has for Teoh’s family is lost when he chooses to harp on the status of the child, whom he labels as an illegitimate child. Dr. Mohd Ridhuan has also compared Teoh’s child to the children of “Malay-Muslim girls who have sex with Muslim or non-Muslim partners with or without consent”, who are born without taking their father’s names.Dr Mohd Ridhuan has shown everyone how low he can go to hurt other human beings with broken logic.

Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir had defended the Internal Security Act (ISA) and lamented that the public had failed to see the benefits from the controversial law that allows for preventive detention without trial yesterday.Once again, the influential Barisan Nasional Deputy Minister took the decades’ long stance that “the law ensures that the country remained peaceful and harmonious.” He had added that “Malaysians were actually fortunate because the nation’s political situation was better compared with many other countries.”No one disputes the fact that the intent of the law when it was first enacted was to maintain peace and harmony at a time when we were facing communist insurgency. Unfortunately, the threat has long disappeared and the ISA is now used for political suppression by putting away political activist deemed as a threat to Barisan Nasional's hold onto power.The reformation appears to be written off the agenda altogether marking the first breach of of promise by Najib.

DAP condemns the mysterious death of Teoh Beng Hock in the MACC Selangor HQ in Shah Alam today. The MACC must bear full responsibility for this death as Teoh was in the custody of MACC when he fell from the 14th Floor of the Selangor MACC building.MACC should stop its political persecution of PR, especially DAP leaders and members, that does not serve the interest of fighting corruption or justice. Such political games have caused the loss of life of a bright young idealistic DAP member.There must be a full investigation on how he died. Unless MACC can clear its name, the public may suspect that Teoh was mistreated and MACC had a hand in his sudden death. There must be full transparency and accountability. DAP extends its condolences to Teoh’s family for this tragic loss and assures them that all steps will be taken to ensure that the culprits or those responsible be punished.
