April Fool’s Engagement!


Todd came in the room and woke me up at 11:30 pm on April 1st He had just gotten home from visiting his son that night. He asked me to come downstairs to help him get some water because he needed to poke himself (inject himself w/ his diabetes medication). So grumpily I woke up eventually… I started walking downstairs and all I see on the stairs are these white roses lining the edge of the stairs. “Oh my god, what is going on?,” I’m thinking as I’m making my way down. On the bottom step there was a whole bunch of white roses that made it impossible to walk on and there he was standing there waiting for me. Still in the grouchiness state from being woken up just merely minutes ago, I looked at him and said, “You know I could really get hurt down here, buddy.” Todd responding by blinking several times and then saying, “I can help you down.” He takes my hand to help me find my way down.


Todd then pulls out a single long stemmed red rose from behind his back and says, “This is a symbol of my love, my heart for you to keep always.” I take the red rose from him (I’m frantically searching it… you know in case he decided to hide a ring or something haha). Anyway, as I took the rose from him he set down on one knee. “OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD,” I’m thinking. “I want to spend the rest of my life with you, I love you, will you marry me?”


I’m absolutely dumbfounded! I shrieked, “But I look like crap!” Here I am in my PJs, hair skewed and make-up less, who no less than 10 minutes ago was sleeping soundly! It must have been a very long moment of silence because Todd just looked at me and said, “Did you say yes?” Snapping me out of my own thoughts, I cried out, “Oh my god! Uhhh YES!!!!!!” He got up and put the ring on my finger. I was ecstatic! I was elated! I was everything all at once! I wanted to hug him and squeeze the life out of him! Alas, I was unable to do so since he was in a bike accident a few days ago in Taiwan. So I did the next best thing and squeezed his bottom (haha)!


He explained to me that he actually got my ring that day. “I was going to make you wait, but I didn’t. You’ve waited long enough beside me. I thought it would be fitting to ask you to marry me on April Fool’s. Seeing as we are both fools, it’s perfect!”

When you find yourself asking WHY try to remember that everyone is put into our life for a "reason", a "season", or for a "lifetime". Know that He was given to you for a "reason" and he will be remembered for a "lifetime".
