Gayuma started in 2005 in an annually held battle of the bands called “RAVE” at First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities in Tanauan City Batangas. Covering songs from POT and Kapatid, they won first place and in the following year, 2006, they became the champion of the said competition. After winning in other various competitions in Batangas, the band decided to take one leap by writing their own songs and to prove that “FUNK IS NOT DEAD”. By incorporating their different taste in music such as metal, blues, jazz and old school Pinoy rock, they’ve come up with a distinctive sound of fusing funk with a twin-guitar attack, groovy and slappy bass lines, steamy drum patterns and smooth but aggressive vocal input to their self proclaimed genre called “GORILYA FUNK”. Gayuma did not want to be just another typical band. In every songs they make, they want to utter a unique arrangement that will separate them from other bands. In short, they want to be different. In 2007, the band decided to join the loudest, the biggest and the meanest rock challenge in the country – Red Horse Beer Muziklaban. And luckily, the biggest achievement of the band so far fell into their hands when they were crowned as the Grand Champion. Their winning song “PALALO” is currently being played on NU 107. Right after winning in Muziklaban 2007, the band appeared and played in well-known bars and rock events like MTV Music Summit 2007, NU107 Rock Awards 2007, MYX Bandarito, Rakrakan Series 6, PULP Summerslam 2008, ShadowsFall Live in Manila, Karl Roy Benefit Concert and other RedHorse Beer events. Now, their video "ISLAMAN NA" is already out on YouTube and soon to music channels.
