About Me:
Malaybalay City is a 3rd class city in the province of Bukidnon, Philippines. It is the capital city of Bukidnon.According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 123,672 people in 23,522 households.
When Spanish Explorers came to the central portion of the province in the late 18th century, they inquired as to the name of the town. The people replied in sputtering Visayan "Walay Balay." The Spaniards mispronounced the name and repeated it as Malaybalay.
Malaybalay had been known before as "Oroquita". It was only in 1850 that it was established as a settlement.
Bukidnon became a part of the province of Misamis as a municipality in 1850, the whole area was then called Malaybalay (few houses) and the people known as Bukidnons (mountain people). Malaybalay was created as a municipality on October 19, 1907. In 1910, Malaybalay became a sub-province of Agusan. It then became an independent unit, named the Province of Bukidnon with Malaybalay as the capital. Finally, on February 11, 1998, President Fidel Ramos signed the act that converted Malaybalay to a city.
The weather is relatively cool throughout the year. The average annual rainfall is 2,800 millimeters (112.5 inches). Rainfall is distributed throughout the year, though it is more intense from the months of June to October.
Malaybalay City celebrates Kaamulan Festival every March. 'Kaamulan' means gathering together. This festival is the gathering of the seven tribes of the province of Bukidnon. The highlights of the said gathering includes street dancing, trade exhibit, rodeo, and the night of Bukidnon dances. The whole celebration is very colorful and many local and foreign tourists come to see the magnificent display of the rich culture of the province.
