Tulane, and I must say she is one
fascinating individual. She got
interested in medicine through an art
class that she took, and I have seen
some preliminary art works, she draws
more than stick-figures! She may
become the female version of Netter in
a decade or two. She keeps a skull
named "Herb" in her apartment, and
throws awesome parties in his honor
(supposedly Herb is a great dancer, but
I have not had the fortune of seeing him
dance.) And, she has a
great "boyfriend" who does not mind
the skull or the parties that she throws
for him. Simi is a film buff, which makes
her my best friend by default. She
doesn't notice when I fall asleep when a
Nobel Laureate is giving a lecture at
school, which makes me like her even
more. So glad she is a member of my
med school class. Oh, ask Simi about
her "commitment issues," she loves to
talk about it.

1998 or 1999, memory fails. There were a
good-many cows and I, and every one else,
was speaking in tongues. On one occasion I
fell asleep to dream in Arabic, only to be
awakened by someone screaming in
Hebrew (I was told to get dressed and made
to go running through strange fields made
wet and muddy by a recent rain). And there,
too, was Simi, a vision: calm, radiant, in
perfect repose (and really, really fucking
funny); assaulted as we were from every
side, humiliated, commanded to conjugate
hollow verbs until our calloused fingers
could write no more, Simi remained quite
simply Simi: sexy, smart ... simmering ...

this girl in probably 10 years I have
fond memories. She is the only person
I have ever seen offer someone sugar
to snort and tea to smoke while in the
home of her grandfather. And no matter
what we may have been doing she always
made it feel like we were being
sneaky. And she never seemed to hold
the police incident against me, which
I really appreciate.
