      • John says he's never engaged in "anting", but it's not true. He's done it, but only in the rock 'n roll way.

      • I first read about the punk band The Grackles
in Hollinger Inc.'s internal publication "The
Group Scoop" and have been a fan ever since.
John plays guitar like he has three hands and
sings like the entire Vienna Boys Choir going
through puberty. He also gives back to his
        community by helping underprivileged girls
        afford breast implants.

      • DY's a true lyrical genius. Bet you
didn't know he was the master
behind "And what becomes of you my
love?/ When they have finally stripped
you of/ The handbags and the gladrags/
that your granddad had to sweat so you
        could buy." Yep, pure genius.

      • A few weeks ago John asked me in person whether I
would object to being his Friendster; he explained
that he didn't have enough of them. Naive and
soft-hearted, I had no choice but to permit it. But
as soon as I received and approved his actual
request -- several days, but probably less than a
fortnight, later -- I noticed that he has more
Friendsters than I have in this new "2nd degree" set.
I felt common and used. And yet when I awake
each morning to his flaccid face on the pillow next
to mine, I resolve to enjoy with redoubled abandon
all the beautiful moments we share, and ignore his
        many other lives.

      • The key and cornerstone to the lasting
friendship between John and I? Simple: a
        moderately funny, highly repetitous Jon
Lovitz skit from early 90s SNL.

      • Try playing brinksmanship with
        John--especially fun at parties, good
        icebreaker. . . .

      • "I am in a band," John proclaimed,
waving his syphyllis stick in the air.

      • I was a young FBI agent who went undercover
to learn if a group of wild surfers were actually
a gang of bank robbers. I soon came under
the dangerous spell of the surfers' charismatic
leader, John Lomax, a mystical mastermind
        who'd do absolutely anything for a thrill--and
expects his followers to do the same. John
also looks great in a bathing suit.
