My given name’s Chou Ryuuen, though, I am called ‘Nuriko’, because of the best and unconditionally fact that I am one of the Suzaku Sichiseishi (warriors), who were born and destined to protect the Priestess of Suzaku. A Chinese symbol that appears on the left side of my chest is a proof that I am one of the Suzaku Seven.
I was born on Eiyou, Konan’s Capital on the 10th day of March. Despite of my feminine appearance, I am undeniably a man. Ironic, isn’t it? All things have changed after the death of my dearest little sister, Kourin.
Kourin and I have been together ever since. We share the same facial features. We laugh, cry and play together. But all that suddenly, the memories we cherished together were ruined after she was being killed by a runaway horse. I couldn’t accept the hardest fact that she was already dead. So, until that day, I’ve become what I am. I’ve changed.
“From now on, I am you now, Kourin… I am you.”
I’ve tried my best to look like her. Because, I know that if I do this kind of thing, she would still be with me- so that I couldn’t forget her.
I’ve decided to work as a lady in the Konan palace. And I’ve successfully become a lady in the empire. One fine day, I noticed that the emperor has found the Priestess already. At first, I didn’t claim to be one of the priestess’s protectors. While searching for the other Suzaku warriors, an accident happened to the Priestess and Tamahome, also one of the Suzaku seven- they were trapped in the collapsing rubble. No one could help them besides me. I stepped forward to help. Suzaku, the great God of the Southern Heavens gave each of the Suzaku seven, a power, to be able to protect the priestess and protect our land. I, Nuriko, was given the ability of strength. Superstrength, or what is it called?
“Oh, you’re still alive. You have the devil’s luck. ”, I spoke to them.
I badly wanted the emperor’s attention. Emperor Hotohori- one of the Suzaku Seven, like me. I got irritated and planted hatred on the priestess, Miaka. But, despite of my harsh and rude feelings and doings toward her, she accepted and made friends with me, which I totally appreciated. Her kindness, her outgoing attitude, all about her brings the manly side of me.
After we left Konan and headed to Genbu in the north to get the Shinzaho (a sacred relic of Genbu), I cut my hair as a sign that I already accepted Kourin’s death and forget the past. But I won’t forget Kourin. I also realized that more and more, I’ve been falling in love with the priestess, Miaka. And I was ready to die for her. In order to get the Shinzaho, we must go to the mountain where the sacred relic was located. I confessed my feelings for Miaka to Tamahome, who genuinely loves her as well. I told him not to worry, ‘cause I want them to be together. And so, I’ve decided to go to the mountain alone so that Tamakins (nickname I usually call to Tamahome =) and Miaka can spend some time with together while looking for the others.
Unfortunately, Ashitare, one of the Seiryuu Seven, a rival of ours, came to follow me and to posses the Shinzaho first. Too bad I’m not gonna let him!!! We fought and I badly got wounded. But still, I can’t let him get the Shinzaho. I got rid of him, but I somehow knew that I couldn’t see and be with Miaka and my friends anymore. Miaka and Tamakins came to look upon me when they sense my life force getting weaker. They found me lying on the ground- bleeding and was ready to die. And the others came too late to see me smile and open my eyes…
