in response to long term values, as well as in response to
more immediate stimuli. Curiously, it can even focus its
consciousness on itself.

about everything I have learned since
I met him nearly four years ago,
which is amazing, as I don't even see
him as often as once a year. Some of
the things I appreciate about this
character: 1. He is good at paying
attention in several different
channels at once. For example, if he
is paying attention to a person (and
he does make a point of paying
attention to people), he might hear
what she is saying, and also notice
how she is standing. 2. He is easy to
please. Of course that is fun for the
people around him. 3. He not only a
world champion of commenting his
code, but writes and posts his ideas
about his code and the code of
others so accessibly that it connot
help but advance the whole science
of whatever it is he is working on. 4.
He is eccentric. 5. He is a good
singer. 6. He made an excellent
baby. 7. He had a good idea to use
celery as a vegetable to cook with. 8.
He is outraged at some of the same
things I am outraged about. 9. Just
between you and me, I think there is
a teensy little possibility that his
vocabulary is better than mine is. 10.
He does some pretty good tricks...he
has this great routine of counting very
fast in binary on his fingers. 11. He is
nice to his mom. 12. He is tall
enough to pick my blackberries and
plums, and they are ready, so I with
he would come over here right now
and we could have some!
insightful, dedicated, and conscientious
person, that I have happily chosen to be
his intimate companion for the
foreseeable future and beyond (my
foresight is limited). He's also just
plain fun to be with!
