      • Little known Austin fact: Austin's family use to own my family during the days of slavery. We were finally set free...in 1990 and now Austin's family and mine are the best of friends..reallly..we harbor no grudges.. Then I left South Carolina and discovered that apparently slavery ended in 1865?? What the hell??? you guys kept it secret that long!!

      • Austin is making me write this
        testimonial. By this point he's
threatened not only my life, but the lives
of my entire family AND my guinea pig.
So keep in mind that anything written
under duress is not binding... ;)

Austin is fantastic, really. He's been one
of my best friends for awhile, and every
        conversation with him involves laughing
        and bitching about Republicans, which
are two of my favorite things. He really
bends over backwards for people he
cares about and is a constant source of
        support and sincere caring. However,
you can't fuck with Austin, because he's
practically a samurai and he's probably
smarter than 99% of the world. Stay on
his good side. It'll pay off. You really
can't find a better friend. And I'd say that
even without the threat to everyone I
        care about. So there. :)

      • So, Austin wrote an undergraduate
thesis about Michael Ondaatje. Not only
did Austin get to *hand* Ondaatje the
paper, but Ondaatje *loved* the paper.
How many people do you know who
can say that they wrote their
        (undergrad!) thesis about an award-
winning author, that they had the author
read the paper, and that they got a
        terrifically positive response? Yeah, so
that goes a little way towards explaining
what is between the ears. Further, he is
what I would call an intellectual bon
vivanthe loves the life of the mind
AND other kinds of life (er...notice the
photo) as well. A little less well known:
Austin is a supermodel (minus the bad
attitude) at heart: when we went
shopping not only did he change outfits
        at lightening speed, but everything
looked cute on him. A rare breed
indeed. So rare that he has apparently
reached prophet-like status on his little
island in Japan. But you'll have to ask
him about that. I, on the other hand, will
wait to see just how quickly he wins a
        MacArthur.

      • Dear other side of the Pacific:
Assuming you're not dead from a
        Tsunami, japanese pop 'music', or
        horrifically mutated giant lizard/moth
        creatures which emit laser-beams
from their eyes, I'd say you're doing
alright. This side 'o' the world is a
sorrier bunch of mortals not having
you. As for the noises, well, I can
        only say that your well-timed
        utterance once prompted a dear
person in my life into her one and
        only public raptor-noise
performance, and for that i may
        either have to disembowel your
firstborn son or grant you a high-
level postion in my cabinet when the
        revolution (televised, of course,
        perhaps even in smell-ivision)
        arrives. Obligatory prostitute
        reference... *now*.

      • Yours was a charmed life that could
have been bountiful, enriched with the
wholesome, the true, and the good. I
recognized your worth, singled you out
and you scoff at my outstretched hand.
With a memory as old as time I shall
deliver you from one darkness and into
another for yours is a sleep from which
none awaken. Close thine eyes when my
        radiance approacheth, your destruction
        comes swift and painlessly.

      • since i wandered into his apartment on
a random autumn day many years ago,
austin and i have been fast friends. i
couldn't ask for a more quickwitted or
loyal friend. though he has abandoned
me for the winter wonderland that is
chicago, i miss him immensely and on a
        daily basis. all you chicago-ites
should know how lucky you are to be
able to walk down the street to meet up
with him for a sunday night beer (or
        monday or tuesday or wednesday...)i'm
so jealous! i miss mac and cheese and
la tolteca 5 meals a day; i miss fawlty
towers and lodge dance parties and the
leafe. austin has taught me more about
geography and friendship than any other
man and i am forever thankful- he's one
of my favorite people ever and i still
cant understand why his parents love me
        more than him ;)
