      Miaka
She is outgoing and optimistic. She is amicable with everyone. She tends to be guileless and sentimental. She is never suspicious. She is naïve, but sometimes surprises adults with an insightful comment. She can be unassuming, magnanimous and courageous but somewhat unsophisticated. She seems to give the impression that she always needs help so she always seems to have someone looking after her. She is constantly eating, and is drawn to any type of food. Also, her gluttony sometimes gets in the way, as she was once drawn into a magical mirror because of food. She believes herself to be considerate. She is also in love with Tamahome. Her love for him becomes part of the plot line, because Yui Hongo is also in love with him.

Tamahome (鬼宿) is a character is the anime and manga series Fushigi Yūgi. First portrayed as greedy and only seems to want to help out when he is paid. Of course later on in the series it is revealed that he only acts greedy for a special cause. He later fell in love with Miaka after she confessed her love to him and was struck ill. He cares for all the Suzaku-seishi and is deeply wounded when some of them die. In the OVA Season 1 3rd episode, he is reborn in Miaka's world as Taka.
== Statistics == Real Name: Cóng Guǐxiù (琮 鬼宿 Sou Kishuku) Everyone knows him as Tamahome. Pronounced Tah-mah-ho-mae. AKA: Taka Sukunami (宿南 魏), Obake-chan (Little Ghost) It should be noted that the towns people were the ones who gave him the name "obake-chan." Later, when Tasuki teases him about the name, he gets offended. Character: "Demon", located on his forehead Constellation: Cancer Date Of Birth: 28 June Age: 17 Height: 1.80m (about 5 feet, 11 inches) Hair Color: Anime: Blue/ Manga: Black Eye Color: Anime: Gray/ Manga: Brown Bloodtype: O Birthplace: Hakko Village, Juso prefecture in Konan Empire ~ Bai-Jiang Village, Shou-Shuang Prefecture, Hong-Nan Weapons: Fists, street fighting, nunchaaku (when he sided with Seiryu) Family: Father (Kyuen), mother (Yuugetsu - died when he was 12), 2 younger brothers (Chuei/Zhong-rong (12) and Shunkei/Chun-jing (7)), and 2 younger sisters (Gyokuran/Yu-lun (9) and Yuiren/Jie-lian (5)). All are deceased (father and siblings due to Suboshi's attack). Hobbies: Making money, "Miaka!!" Abilities: Martial arts in general, he has the ability to channel his ki into energy blasts and when emotionally motivated he can sometimes use his ki to increase his strength, speed and reflexes in combat Personality: On the outside he is very chipper, and that leads to some comic expressions, but he is tough on the inside. On the other hand, he is very shy. (He had to become stoic for his family's sake.) That is why he was hard on Miaka at first. He sacrifices himself for the sake of others, and won't back down against an enemy. He is in love with Miaka. Their love transcends worlds. Tamahome can hear Miaka if she calls his name, i.e she is in trouble. Also, if one is not much of a Tamahome fan, one may have trouble figuring his true personality. Most people are fans of Tamahome-san's good looks. It's possible Tamahome doesn't even realize he's good looking, but sometimes may get a bit vain about it (however mostly only for comic relief or to try to get himself out of an embarrassing or tricky situation). Tamahome is a very sincere and good person in general and wouldn't hesitate to save another person's life.

Hotohori (星宿) is a character in the manga and anime series Fushigi Yūgi. The beautiful narcissistic fourth Emperor of Konan. When he first heard about the Suzaku-no-Miko at a young age, he thought the priestess would be the one for him and love him for himself, instead of his title. Eventually, when he met Miaka Yuki, he loved her deeply and would do anything for her. Thus, he became Tamahome's rival, but stepped aside when he realized Miaka only had eyes for Tamahome. He eventually marries a woman named Houki, who bears a striking resemblance to Nuriko. He is killed by Nakago during the battle between Konan and Kutou, leaving Houki pregnant with his son Boushin.
Statistics Real Name: Xing-Xiu (星宿 Seishuku) AKA: Cai-Bi-Di (彩賁帝 Saihitei) Character: "Star", located on the left side of his neck Constellation: Hydra Date Of Birth: 2 April Age: 18 Height: 1.82m (5 feet, 11½ inches) Hair color: dark brown almost black Eye color: Anime: Amber/ Manga: Dark brown Bloodtype: A Birthplace: Eiyo, Capital of Konan Empire ~ Rong-Yang, capital city of the Hong-Nan Empire Weapon: Sword Family: Mother (Motaikō), elder brother (Shu Tendō), 3 half brothers (Ōgi, Bogyoku, and Kotsuki), 2 younger half-sisters, wife (You Houki) and son (Boushin, aka Reizeitei) Hobbies: Reading, fashion Abilities: Fencing (received expert training as a child) Voice Actors: Takehito Koyasu (子安武人) (Japanese), Kirk Thornton (English), Vincent Gutierrez (Tagalog) [edit] Personality He seems like the type that hides his feelings, but he is actually a warm and gentle man. As the ruler of his kingdom, he was raised surrounded by adults, so it is no wonder he looks old for his age. He looks cold and harsh when he is sitting on the throne because of his isolated and lonely upbringing. He never had any real love from his parents, the previous Emperor and Empress, so he is very attracted to Miaka's warmth. When he is around her, he turns into a normal young man. The worst part (or best part) about him is that he's a total narcissist. Hotohori is very proud of his beauty, and is always displaying his regal bearing and good looks. He loves looking at himself in the mirror and definitely likes when others compliment him. He does this in good humor, though - he is not a selfish person or someone who would cut others down. Rather, he is generous with his beauty, loving himself but also others along with him. Due to his sheltered background, he does not know much about the world. Hotohori is the fourth Emperor of Konan, and from a young age, he was raised among adults to be responsible and take care of political affairs. Hotohori is naturally a gentle, peace-loving person, who is rather isolated and quiet but also very good to and caring of others. Hotohori is serious and kind, and noble to the people he rules over. In fact, he will often put the affairs of Konan ahead of taking care of himself, so that he is so busy looking after the people and ruling the country that he forgets about his own life and needs. Since he was raised among adults such as advisors and ambassadors, he acts older than his age. As Emperor, he is trained to be cool and majestic, but his warm heart shines through his reserved exterior. Hotohori’s childhood was filled with emptiness and aloneness. As a youngster, he felt he was unloved by his father, the previous Emperor, and his mother. During some instances, he felt a little love from his father, but felt that this is only because he is a Celestial Warrior. Even as a child he was saddled with the affairs of the entire country; but when the young Hotohori learned he was a Suzaku-seishi and heard the legend of Suzaku-no-Miko, he embraced the story. He hoped the young girl who appeared would be the one to end his solitude and sadness, and like him for who he really was. Hotohori’s father died when he was fourteen, and his mother forced him to become the Emperor. When Hotohori’s mother also died, life around him became even more quiet. Hotohori felt as though he was trapped and longed for freedom. Hotohori shares pride in his destiny as a Suzaku-seishi, for soon he is surrounded by people who are his true friends and share his future, finally bringing an end to his loneliness and giving him contentment. In Fushigi Yūgi Eikoden, Hotohori is revived as a young boy who visits a local cemetery often. During the assembly of the Suzaku-seishi, he was the last one to return, despite Nuriko's threat to kill him by his sword when he doesn't come out.
      Nuriko
Nuriko (柳宿) is a character in the manga and anime series Fushigi Yūgi. Nuriko first appears disguised as "Kourin" in Emperor Hotohori's harem (which Hotohori never goes to unless to welcome new maidens). "Kourin" was in fact Nuriko's younger sister who died at a young age; he began behaving and dressing like her to keep her memory alive. Nuriko is the only consistently crossdressing, physically strong warrior in the series and is very infatuated with his fellow warrior, Hotohori. In addition to that, it is later revealed that he also loves Miaka Yuki (and according to creator Yuu Watase, Nuriko is bisexual), though the exact nature of this love is never revealed due to his death shortly after admitting his love for her. However, within Hotohori's character novel consists a letter written by Nuriko to Houki. It was written just before his death and in it he says he's fallen in love with someone special (Miaka). Nuriko is the first Suzaku-seishi to die in the story. He was killed during a fight with Seiryū-seishi Ashitare. Near the end of his life he dresses as a man so he can properly protect Miaka. Nuriko is often the second choice when it comes to 'Favorite Seishi', slightly behind Tasuki and closely followed by Chichiri.
Statistics Real Name: Tiao Liu-Juan (迢 柳娟 Chou Ryuuen) AKA: Tiao Kang-Lin (迢 康琳 Chou Kourin) Character: "Willow", under his left collar bone Constellation: Hydra Date Of Birth: 10 March Age: 18 Hair Color: Anime: Vibrant Purple/ Manga: Light blue Eye Color: Anime: Brownish Pink/ Manga: Amber Height: 1.66m (5 feet, 5½ inches) Bloodtype: B Birthplace: Eiyo, Capital of Konan Empire Weapon: Armlets which increase strength (he got these at the end of season 1, as a reward from Taiitskun) Family: Parents, elder brother named Rokou (呂候), younger sister named Kourin (deceased), an uncle named Sonjun (孫淳), and an aunt called Fuyou (芙蓉) Hobbies: Dressing like a woman, fashion, makeup Seishi Powers: Superhuman strength Voice Actors: Chika Sakamoto (Japanese), Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (English) [edit] Personality Nuriko is biologically a man, but judging by his looks, tone of voice and all other factors, Nuriko seems like a woman, and as a woman is infatuated with Hotohori. The uninitiated may simply see a homosexual, but as Nuriko puts it, "I have a man's body but a woman's heart." When not angry or being calculating, Nuriko can be a very level-headed, compassionate person. He's the jealous type, but he is also a warrior. Nuriko seems to worry most about Miaka and Tamahome's relationship. Miaka looks up to Nuriko as an older sister, but there is a part of him that remains very manly. Nuriko's reason for cross-dressing has a tragic past. In episodes 30 (Manga volume 8) , he tells the story of his sister, Kourin. While chasing with young Ryuuen, Kourin got ran over by a horse driven carriage, ultimately killing her. A heart-broken Ryuuen couldn't accept the fact that she was dead, so in order to feel Kourin's presence, he dressed like her and acted like her days after her death. There was a detailed story about little Korin and Ryuuen in "The Prologue of Korin" which was published in the Perfect World Magazine.
One of Nuriko's ancestors also makes an appearance in Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden chapter 15. He sells clothes to the priestess and warriors of Genbu.
Romantic Interests When Nuriko is first introduced into the series, he identifies as gay and cross-dresses as a woman. While he stops doing so in order to be able to better protect Miaka, he maintains his love for Hotohori. Though he is jealous of Miaka - for Hotohori admits his love for her early on in the series - Nuriko remains (relatively) mature about the situation, and he and Miaka grow close. Later on, Nuriko comes to terms with the fact that his cross-dressing resulted from the unyielding pain of losing his sister Kourin, and concludes that he had been trying to live his life as Kourin would have, not as he would have. This revelation allows him to finally allow himself to experience life as a man. He cuts his hair, which once hung down to his waist in a braid (much to the surprise of his companions), and admits to Tamahome that he loves Miaka as more than a friend. Throughout the rest of the series, even after his death from Ashitare, one of the Seiryū-seishi, the friendship between Nuriko and Miaka remains strong. In Fushigi Yūgi Eikoden, Nuriko is revived as a young girl at a local marketplace. She also steals the magic ball Tasuki has, and breaks it. Despite the young girl's size, she is able to lift a heavy rock, like Nuriko, only to find out that she is indeed Nuriko.
Chichiri (井宿) is a Suzaku celestial warrior in Yuu Watase's Fushigi Yūgi. He is a wandering monk who has trained for several years with Taiiitsu-kun, the creator. When he first appears, he appears to be always smiling, but this is later explained as a magical mask whose features he can move by reflex, making it resemble a natural face. Underneath, most of his face does not look so different from the mask, but one of his eyes is scarred by an old injury across his forehead. He received this scar at the age of eighteen, when he was engaged to be married. After his best friend stole a kiss from Chichiri's fiancee, she called off their betrothal. Chichiri became enraged at this betrayal and the two men began to fight. While they were fighting, a heavy rainstorm blew in, causing the Shoryuu (Rising Dragon) River to flood their home village. Most of the inhabitants were drowned, including Chichiri's family and his fiancee. (It should also be noted that this same storm hit the neighboring village where Mitsukake lived and his father died attempting to save those closest to the river.) His friend fell into the rushing water and Chichiri attempted to rescue him, but a nearby log smashed into Chichiri's eye and gouged it out. His friend survived by himself, but with the resentful belief that he had been deliberately abandoned to die. In the later Fushigi Yugi books when the two men meet again, this mistaken resentment causes him to resume the old battle, but this ends when the story behind the dreadful scar is repeated to him. Chichiri is the oldest and wisest of all of the Suzaku warriors and thus thinks of himself as the older brother who looks after them all. He habitually ends many sentences with the emphatic phrase "no da", translated as "ya know" in the anime's English version (mainly the subtitles, as the English dub of the anime tends to omit this quirk). At the end of the series, he and Tasuki are the only Suzaku seishi still alive in The Universe of the Four Gods.
Statistics Real Name: Li Fang-Zhun (李 芳准 Ri Houjun) Character: "Well", located on one of his kneecaps Constellation: Taurus Date Of Birth: 20 May Age: Throughout main series & OVA1- 24, Throughout OVA2- 27, Throughout OVA3- (around) 34 Height: 1.75m (5 feet, 9 inches) Hair Color: Anime: Blue/ Manga: Blonde-Dirty Blonde Eye Color: Anime: Reddish brown/ Manga: Dull brown Blood type: Unknown Birthplace: A village along the Shōryū (Rising Dragon) River, near the northern Konan-Kutou border Weapon: Staff (shakujō), hat (kasa), mantle (kesa) Family: Parents and a younger sister (all died in flood) Hobbies: Fishing Seishi Abilities: Learned his abilities from Taiitsukun (Various magical techniques); his first power that awakened was the ability to form a barrier around himself. Voice Actors: Tomokazu Seki (Japanese), Jim Taggert (English) [edit] Personality A superficially lighthearted character with a tragic past. With equal ease, he can put on super deformed 'chibi' frivolity or suddenly be very serious and grim. He is the most neutral character of the Seven Celestial Warriors of Suzaku. While Tamahome and Hotohori are the obvious leaders, Chichiri is the ever-staunch advisor and supporter from behind the scenes, always willing to help when needed. Unconcerned with his own mortality or with earthly desires, he has a Zen master's detached attitude and can use many techniques Taiitsukun taught him.
      Tasuki!
Tasuki (翼宿) is a character from the popular shōjo manga and anime series Fushigi Yūgi. He at first is seen as frank, loud, and a potty mouth (and he usually is). He is often the first choice when it comes to "Favorite Seishi", very closely followed by Nuriko and Chichiri. He claims to hate all females (This is due to his family - five older sisters, alpha-male mother, and wimp father). He is a pyromaniac leader of the Mount Reikaku bandits. He is one of the funniest characters in the series (the main comical relief) and also the most sentimental, which fans often find contradicts his personality. Beneath that rebellious, tough, bandit exterior is a sensitive sweetie (even if he will try to deny it). He is also extremely quick and agile. He loves to joke around and just act like a goof-ball, especially with Nuriko and Tamahome, then later Chichiri. His preferred weapon is a metal harisen (fan) that can emit flames when he cries out "Rekka Shin'en" (or "Lekka Shien," depending on the translation). At the end of the series, he and Chichiri are the only (living) Suzaku seishi remaining in the Universe of the Four Gods.
Statistics Real Name: Hou Jun-Yu (侯 俊宇 Kou Shun'u) AKA: Huan-Lang (幻狼 Genrou) Character: "Wings", located on his right forearm Constellation: Crater Date Of Birth: 18 April Age: Throughout main series & OVA 1- 17, Throughout OVA2- 19, Throughout OVA3- (Around) 29 Height: 1.78m (5 feet, 10 inches) Bloodtype: B Hair Color: A bright flame orange Eye Color: Changes from a mellow amber to a lively gold. Birthplace: Foot of Mount Reikaku, in Koshu Taito province of Konan Empire Weapon: The flame throwing Tessen; iron fan (really a diamond fan) Family: Parents, and five elder sisters: Eimin, Rin'an, Fuyou, Manka, and Aidou Hobbies: Drinking, Brawling Seishi Powers: Super Human Speed (His tessen is not a Seishi Power, it is simply an Item of powerful magic handed down by the leaders of the Mount Reikkaku Bandits) Voice Actors: Nobutoshi Canna (Japanese), Daran Norris as James Penrod (English)
Personality Tasuki may have grown up physically, but tends to act like a child often. When the chief bandit (Hakurou) of Mount Reikaku took Tasuki under his wing, Tasuki found his calling. He started to improve his martial arts skills in order to be like - and carry on after - his mentor as the bandit leader. He also learned (along with Koji) the use of the iron fan which was changed during the first season into a diamond fan by Taiitskun as a reward, and after that only he could make it spew fire. He reluctantly left his close friend Koji as the bandit leader so he could help Miaka and the other seishi on their quests. Tasuki is straight forward, simple minded, and quick to pick a fight. Despite that, he is bound by chivalry, yet gets emotional easily. He unfortunately cannot cope with swimming; a few episodes show that Tasuki cannot swim. His usual excuse for it is because he's a "man of the mountains". However in the Series 2 OVA, he saves Miaka from drowning by "swimming," that is he pushes along the bottom of the lake in water that only comes up to his arms. When Chichiri appears, Tasuki is startled into deeper water, where he instinctively began to tread water. Only when Chichiri points out that he cannot swim does he stop, resulting in his sinking. During the series, Tasuki's feelings for Miaka are purely brotherly, but in OVA 2, romantic feelings are shown. While under a spell to, in a sense, "bring out his evil inner wants", he nearly rapes her until Taka shows up. Tasuki tries to kill Taka, then suddenly yells "I won't betray my friends!" and tries to kill himself with his tessen to keep himself away from everyone so he wouldn't hurt them, thus ultimately blowing up the whole building. Tasuki would have died in the explosion (which was his intention) had Mitsukake not arrived to save him. Tasuki's softer side manifests mostly in his relationship with Chiriko. Though it might seem unusual that someone as rough around the edges as Tasuki is would befriend a child, Tasuki is the baby in his family and is the only boy. Chiriko's age makes him the ideal canidate to become like Tasuki's younger brother, and likewise, Chiriko's looks up to Tasuki as an older brother. Chiriko strives to be a "manly man" like Tasuki is, so the two become an unlikely pair in the series.
Tasuki is also very sensitive about his friends. He will undoubtedly kill anyone who tries to harm them, put them in any danger, or make fun of them. Tasuki is also extremely sensitive when any of his friends die. Tasuki took everyone's deaths the hardest and took the longest to recover from their deaths. In Yuu Watase's Genrou Den (Tasuki's novel),it show's Tasuki's life before he joined Suzaku no Miko and other warriors and how he met Koji and the other bandits. He was shown to have a love interest named Rei-Rei. She fell for him before he realized he loved her. Sadly she dies retrieving the iron fan from severe wounds.
Relationship With Miaka Throughout the series, Tasuki thinks of Miaka as a sister. However, his feelings for Miaka changes when (evil) Tamahome breaks her arms and heart. He almost dies trying to fight off Tamahome and stops when Miaka pleaded him to. In the 2nd OAV episode 4, he is effected by the spell that brings out the inner evil. Tasuki attacks Taka and takes Miaka to a nearby city and gives her food(Miaka has a strange craving for food) and liquor. Miaka becomes drunk, and Tasuki takes her to a room in the 2nd floor of an inn. Tasuki nearly rapes her until Taka interrupts. During his "almost raping Miaka" moment, he says how he hates woman, but not her (He says "But yer just Miaka." and "I am a man."). Fans believe that it was not the spell on its own, but that Tasuki had truly fallen in love with Miaka. When they first met each other, Tasuki kidnapped her to get his rightful place back as the leader of the Mount Reikaku Bandits. He also thinks of her a strange (unique?) girl.
Tessen/Speed This is not a seishi power at first, but after the first failed summoning of Suzaku, Taiitskun appears and gives everybody rewards. Tasuki comments on how his tessen ("iron fan") had been turned to diamond, which it had from iron. After that transformation, Taiitskun made it so that ONLY Tasuki could use the tessen. Tasuki's true seishi power is his speed and not his tessen, but throughout the anime and manga, Tasuki's diamond harisen is still called a tessen. Tasuki was given the name Genrou because it means Phantom Wolf for his ability to move like that of a phantom and for his wolfish like appearance: fangs, wild hair, beady eyes, and long legs.
Kouji Kouji (攻児) Age: 19 Title: Leader of the Mount Reikaku Bandits while Tasuki attends to business. Hobbies: Playing the part of both welcomer and entree when showing up on a scene (usually with a square dance with Tasuki) Voice Actor: Tomokazu Seki (Japanese) Kouji is one of the most popular minor characters in the series. With a completely charming way of knocking on/answering doors, Kouji is the only member of the Mount Reikaku Bandits who doesn't dream of putting a finger on Miaka (or Hotohori and Nuriko, for that matter). He is two years older than Tasuki, and technically had seniority, but Tasuki's special rank as a Suzaku Celestial Warrior ensured the younger bandit the title of leader. Despite an initial dislike of Tasuki when the boy first joined the Mount Reikaku Bandits, the two grew close and Kouji had to admit a grudging respect for the whelp. When Tasuki leaves the bandits in order to fulfill his destiny, Kouji takes the leader position, as it was down to either him or Tasuki. During the war between Kotou and Konan, Kouji and his bandits offered to give assistance to Konan by agreeing to fight. After peace is restored to Konan, Tasuki returns to Mount Reikaku and resumes his position as leader from Kouji, though it is generally accepted that the pair shares the responsibility.

Real Name: Ri Houjun Star Pattern: Gemini Birthdate: May 21st Age: 24, 26 in OAVs 1 & 2 Hair Color: Light Blue Eye Color: Reddy-brown Character: "sho" - well Character Location: on his right knee Blood Type: Unknown Height: 175cm, approx. 5'9" Hobbies: Fishing, protecting the rest of Suzaku's group Powers: Chichiri learned everything from Taiitsu-kun, he spent three years with her in training. His powers include strong chi blasts, transportation using his kesa (cloak) and kasa (straw hat), the ability to transform himself to anyone, (most notably Nakago and Hotohori), creating force fields and shields, sensing enemies, using telekinesis to move objects and close doors, spell binding, and the ability to SD and become 3 ft. whenever he feels like it. Tools: prayer beads, staff, kasa, and kesa. Birthplace: Shouryuu, a small village in Konan. Background/Character Information: Chichiri usually wears his smiling mask to hide the scar on his face. Only when he is extremely serious will he take off the mask and look you directly in the face. He doesn't want people to feel sorry for him, or be afraid of him, so he wears the mask to comfort others. Being the oldest Seishi, he often plays counselor to the other Seishi and Miaka. It's kind of like a "big brother" sort of role. He is understanding, patient, and a very good listener. He tries very hard to keep everybody's spirits up, usually that involves some deforming and some redundant jokes. A couple of interesting character traits are his speech pattern and his hair. He tends to add "no da" to the end of every sentence. I used to find it very annoying, but it grows on you, soon enough, he wasn't Chichiri if he didn't say "no da". His hair is something that no gravitational law can explain, and is definitely one of the things that makes him who he is. However, even though Chichiri acts so happy all the time, he really has quite a sad past, and bottles it up inside. Throughout the series and the OAVs he struggles with his past, and his own personal goal is to overcome it. I won't write it out right here, because the whole story is just one big spoiler, so I'll give it it's own page in time. Chichiri is loved by all of his companions. He takes care of Tama, the cat, for Mitsukake. His strongest relationship is with loud and obnoxious Tasuki. The two of them seem to counterbalance each other perfectly - Tasuki: loud, impatient, irrational, somewhat crazy and Chichiri: quiet, patient, level-headed, and he thinks things through. For all you Tasuki fans out there, I am not trying to insult Tasuki, after Chichiri he is my second favorite, but you have to admit he is a little crazy (but that's what makes him Tasuki). Well that's about all I can write for now...my hands are tired, and I am hungry, more to come soon!

Mitsukake (軫宿) is a character in the manga and anime series Fushigi Yūgi. The healer of Suzaku's warriors. He is soft-spoken and one of the most serious of the Suzaku Seven. The son of a country doctor, he put his natural talents to work and often would help his father with his rounds. However after the death of Shoka, the daughter of the local nobleman and with whom he was in love, Mitsukake gave up medicine and devoted all of his time and energy into finding a miracle herb that could cure any illness. It was during this reclusive stage that Miaka and the others found him, and with a little persuasion managed to get him to join them. During the battle between Konan and Kutou, he is severely wounded by Nakago, and later gives up all his strength to heal the wounded. His cat Tama is the unofficial mascot of the Suzaku Seven, and after Mitsukake's death, becomes Chichiri's pet.

      chiriko
Chiriko (張宿) is a character in the manga and anime series Fushigi Yūgi. Chiriko is the youngest and the genius among the seven seishi. He is an extremely intelligent child who becomes attached to Tasuki, and likewise Tasuki becomes attached to him. When he first appears, it is revealed he was studying to take an exam to take a seat in the government. He and Chichiri are the two technical minds of the team, but Chiriko is ruled by his character: when it is not on his body, he is a rather average child with limited intelligence, which is a source of frustration for him. The youngest and weakest member of the group, it is unusual that he would gravitate towards someone like Tasuki; however, the reasoning behind it is that Tasuki always wanted a younger brother and is more than happy to fill the roll for Chiriko. His body was taken over by Seiryū Seishi Miboshi, but after regaining control, he stabs himself, taking Miboshi with him to his death.

On the other hand, his intelligence is tied to the appearance of the Chinese character on his foot, and when it disappears, he is even less mentally adept than a normal child his age. (He also becomes something of a crybaby.) He is very sensitive about his height and his peculiar intelligence, and this had made him strive to grow up to be a "man of strength." He is a nice, quiet, good-student type. In Fushigi Yugi Eikoden, Chiriko is revived as a child of a politician. He is the only character to remember who he is, but has to fully revive quickly, otherwise, he will be a normal boy.

In the series it was mentioned that she had had sex with Miaka Yuki, leading fans to think she was a bisexual, but this may have been only a joke or an overexagerated expression of their friendship. Yui becomes trapped in the book universe while trying to help Miaka to return to the real world, and is subsequently caught and believed to be raped by bandits. Distraught, she tries to slit her wrists, but is found by Nakago and who brings her to Kutou. It should be noted that Yui was not in fact raped, but led to believe she was raped by Nakago. Nakago rescued her shortly after she was knocked out by the bandits and let her come to her own conclusions after she regained consciousness. Not realizing that her "rape" was orchestrated by Nakago, Yui begins to blame Miaka for what happened to her and turns against her former best friend, becoming the Priestess of Seiryū (Seiryū no Miko), swearing to fight against Miaka and to take her lover, Tamahome, from her in a desperate act of vengeance and lust. After succeeding in summoning Seiryū, Yui uses her first wish to seal away Suzaku's powers, preventing the god from being summoned and the Celestial Warriors from using their powers. Her second wish is to take Miaka and herself back to their world, hoping to separate Miaka and Tamahome, but Tamahome also arrives in their world with them. Upon learning that Nakago had been using her all along, she has a change of heart and redeems herself by using her third and last wish to disable the seal on Suzaku, allowing Miaka to summon it, but she is absorbed by Seiryū afterwards. After summoning Suzaku, Miaka used her first wish to rescue Yui, and they became friends again. After the events of the "Universe of the Four Gods", Yui enters a long-term relationship with Tetsuya Kajiwara, a friend of Keisuke Yuki (Miaka's brother), who fell in love with her while following her journey when reading the book.
