EARLY LIVE ...

Joshua Daniel Hartnett was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on July 21, 1978, as the oldest of four children. Shortly after Josh was born, his birth mother moved to San Francisco, after divorcing his father. So Josh was raised mostly by his father Daniel Hartnett and stepmother Molly. Josh has three younger siblings, Jessica, Jake, and Joe. In Saint Paul , Minnesota, he attended Cretin-Derham Hall High School , before switching to South High School in Minneapolis , Minnesota , from which he graduated in June 1996. Josh played football in high school, but stopped because of an injured left knee. After he graduated, he attended the State University of New York in Purchase, New York for a short period.

CAREER ...

in April 1997, Hartnett played the role of Michael Fitzgerald on the short-lived American television series, Cracker. Hartnett performed in small plays and national television commercials, before being cast in his first feature film, playing the son of Jamie Lee Curtis' character in Halloween: H20, which was released in August of 1998. Josh has since developed a steady film career, having appeared in several successful Hollywood films, including The Faculty, Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbor and Lucky Number Slevin.

Most recently, Josh was seen in MGM's Wicker Park opposite Diane (Troy) Krueger and Rose (Troy) Byrne for director Paul McGuigan and Miramax's SIN CITY for director Robert Rodriguez. This past year, he completed The Black Dahlia for Universal and director Brian De Palma and Mozart and the Whale written by Ron Bass It's a love story between two people with Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism, whose emotional dysfunctions threaten to sabotage their budding romance. All are set for release this year. His later/recent appearances include: The Prince of Cool (2008), Resurrecting the Champ (2007), 30 Days of Night (2007), August (2007) and I come with the Rain (2007)
