MAX PAYNE is decent and just above average in the fact that it has adequate characterization of the main
character. It also has what I might want to call "pop noir" in it; flashbacks and a bit of the sleuth genre. I'm
not sure how I felt about the bullet-time sequences but they certainly made some scenes seem
overwrought. It has a lot of its moments that pack a wallop; like the bathroom confrontation at the
beginning; or Mark Wahlberg socking Chris O'Donnel. I also loved the SWAT shoot-out though I thought the
part where he just point shoots blindly was corny and unbecoming of the character.
Lastly, composer Marco Beltrami's score here is generic; but makes a action suspense soundtrack.
7/10
cheers!
