come winter the only comparable thing to leafing through some of your books would maybe be alphabet soup in a coffee mug.
well, maybe.
impress me, my wife got me a Ariel
Schrag comic book at your shop when
she visited Portland. We moved out
here, got married and come in the shop
all the time.
the latter part of the 90's driving around the
country peddling their books, READING
FRENZY TOTALLY CHANGED MY LIFE.
I'd spent two weeks walking into bookshops
and saying, "hey- you wanna buy my book?"
and being told "Looks good, you should get
it published." (It IS published you fuck, how
else would I have a stack of them in my
hand?).
Pulling off I-5 in Portland, I found a parking
space in front of a little store called Reading
Frenzy. I walked in to ask about the local
bookstore scene, and a beautiful, smiling
woman asked, "What do you have there?"
"It's a book I published, was my reply.
"Great! We'll take 20." She said.
From there it's pretty much been limos,
cocaine, and blowjobs, all the way to NPR
and the 4th edition of the book.
Now, I silently thank the Frenzy with each
sip of champagne, and each piece of fan
mail I toss into the fireplace.
is as great as it is. I love RF <33
was very young and even then she
took all of my money. She has grown
into quite the young lady and I still
miss her between my all too
infrequent visits. I wasn't a writer
when I first visited and now I am, so
that must count for something.
Cutest counter staff this side of, well,
some film with cute counter staff, I
guess.
