One little vingette: during the 2001
anthrax scare, Van was ill and
convinced she had anthrax. She told me,
as one of her last dying wishes, to
make sure the picture they put of her
in Times was cute and that she was
wearing a beret in it. These are
priorities I understand. Van is
incredible. All of you who don't know
her personally should be shamed.
Van and I had eerily similar inner
fantasy worlds when we were in junior
high, even though we didn't know each
other and were separated by a great
distance. We have a shared past that
isn't actually a shared past. Now
that's some friendster.
