Cindy and I became friends by wasting time In college! Yeah that's right, we would both hang out at the after hours cafeteria when we had a lot of work to do. At first, we would just meet there by chance but that quickly changed. The rational was that it was a "study break" rather than going out and avoiding work all together. Having both been infected at birth by some need to gossip, we always found something to yap about for a few hours.

I am convinced that Cindy has a gift to make you talk. Our little club was three strong at its height. Being that I was the minority sex -- the only guy -- one would think that I would filter some talks about myself, but noooo. I just adjusted my language a bit and blabbed as I would in a boys locker room (not that I ever did that). Maybe it's just that she'll listen to anything or maybe I just talk to much. -The point is, here is someone whom with I would sit down and just yap like nuts but somehow still feel comfortable telling her my "secrets".

Not that they were heavy handed ones that I needed to get out. I didn't even really expect her to keep any of them to herself. Cindy is just fun to hang out with. Sometimes she throws out tangents that confuse the hell out of me. She gets excited about whatever we talk about. If she is not excited about something she becomes so banal and matter of fact that it opens up a new reality to me. She can make serious things funny and funny things serious, unimportant things important and important things are left rendered trivialities by Cindy. She can turn gold to silver...that doesn't make much sense does it? -But that sounds like something she would do.

No, I didn't spend time in the Crest Room with Cindy to get the latest gossip nor to philosophize about the human condition. It wasn't even to stay away from my work. I went to "Crest" (our made-up verb) because Cindy is my friend.
