      • Great book. The author takes you on an meticulously constructed thesis that addresses the question most people do wonder about but none really have the answers-why the haves always have and the have-nots always don't have (e.g. why do white folks always have so many "cargo" and we New Guineans don't?). Diamond explores several possibilities and takes us all the way back to the dawn of civilization where geological...

Black hair black eyes, typical Asian dude
I go to UC, Irvine for my Doctorate in Biomedical
Informatics (recently graduated). My focus is mainly human genetics. Specifically, I work on the identification of genes involved intimately with the process of cellular aging or senescence. My goal is to answer the "what if" question~
what if I can tell you from the day that your child is born, that there is a percentage, a probability for contracting heart disease, mental
illnesses, diabetes, breast cancer, and even the age of his/her natural end.
Sound's almost too Hollywood huh? but it's true and possible within the next ten years (shady guesses available now also). I want to take advantage of the rapid advancement of biological
information and transform/translate this seemingly too academic information into practical application.

Then again, there's the philosophical and ethical question...What if i can tell you how long you will live~ do you want to hear it?? or you have a predisposing gene for arthritis? Currently, every child born in the United States are screen for 29 different kinds of genetic disorders. Funny thing... only 3 of those we could do something about. Unfortunately, 85% of the Asian population carry the predisposing allele (gene) for diabetes. Does your insurance company want to hear it?? I am constantly surrounded by questions/dilemmas like these. As personalized genetic screens for predisposing genes become ever more affordable, Congress must pass relevant bills to protect the privacy of a person to his/her own genetic background.
These are TOUGH questions... and as the next ruling generation I urge everybody to think about them. Because the decision we make today will impact the lives of billions forever after!
I admit, Ignorance is a Bliss... until you're enlightened =) Then we will be held responsible for let the world know the unknowns and comprehend the incomprehensible.

      • Who I Want to Meet:

Ultimately, I ended up working toward making
personalized genetic diagnoses happen in real life. In each of us, there is a
combination of codes that entails a story we inevitably inherited from our ancestors. Where they have been, what environment they've endured to succeed are all recorded in us! Unfortunately, these "advantageous" traits we inherited from our ancestors may predispose us for certain complex multifactorial genetic disorders (diabetes, cancer, even schizophrenia etc.)
By the way, if you read all this crap above... hehe you're just another nerd like me.

I love to meet great people with great characters.
I also want to meet God and ask him why there are so many inherent defects in this supposedly "intricately designed watch by the watchmaker"-our very own, very unique, very beautiful human body

      • Met Eric thru a friend, everytime we
go to Young's house, this guy brings
all the alcohol. But this guy is a
really good friend, and I always see
him out eating. Somehow we just bump
to each other when we go out to eat.

      • Eric is a very cool guy, especially
when his hair is dyed a bright color,
such as red. I've known this guy
since high school. We used to play
Street Fighter II and Super Bomberman,
but, of course, he was no match for
me. Unfortunately for me, he just
        recently beat me in 1-on-1
basketball. I will have to challenge
        him again soon....
