one time we were alone in a computer lab
and it seemed unavoidable. she said she
was from ohio, i said my father was born
in ohio. i went on to talk about how
having never been there i felt it a
mythological place that i often wrote
about. at that point, i'm pretty sure
she started walking away from me. but
even to this day she still smiles at me
when it seems the only option. and for
that i appreciate stephanie.
