      • Marta is one of those amazing people
        who goes through life gracefully,
        politely, with good posture and
        perfect composure, while also being
        terribly smart, down to earth, kind,
        and unbelievably fun to hang out with.
        Sometimes she reminds me of Audrey
        Hepburn. She's probably the only non-
        Indian person I've ever seen in
        shalwar kamis who knew how to keep her
        dupata in place and look elegant and
        not in the least bit silly.

        She's talented with music, foreign
        languages, gardening, teaching,
        organizing libraries, and probably a
        thousand things she hasn't even
        discovered herself, yet.

        We were friends for years before I
        ever had the remotest idea of her
        complexity and the depth of her
        coolness.

        And on top of everything else, she's
        also a damned fine writer.
