Being the youngest son of Konoha Military Police captain and Uchiha clan head Fugaku Uchiha, Sasuke grew up in the shadow of his older brother, Itachi Uchiha. Itachi was an acknowledged prodigy who was viewed by the Uchiha clan as a genius, and whose work would further strengthen the bonds between the village and the clan. Sasuke's father in particular took an active interest in Itachi. Itachi, on the other hand, was rather ambivalent and full of oddly conflicting undercurrents, acknowledging Sasuke by taking interest in his progress as a ninja when even their father did not, but spending little quality time with Sasuke. Even after Sasuke enrolled in the Ninja Academy, he was still unable to escape Itachi's shadOW.

Orochimaru tested Sasuke's abilities by having him battle hundreds of Sound ninja, a task he completed without taking a scratch and without killing any of them. About the latter, Sasuke remarked that the only person he wanted to kill was Itachi. Soon afterwards he attacked Orochimaru, deciding that there was nothing else that he could learn and that Orochimaru was unworthy of having his body or the Sharingan. Although Sasuke appeared victorious after a brief scuffle, Orochimaru was able to initiate the body-stealing jutsu. Sasuke, however, was able to reverse the process, absorbing Orochimaru into his body.

With Orochimaru gone, Sasuke began forming a team of Orochimaru's former subordinates and test subjects who would help him find and kill Itachi. He recruited Suigetsu, Karin, and Jugo under the name of Hebi, offering each something in exchange for their help. They split up to see what they could learn about Itachi's whereabouts. Sasuke soon ran into Akatsuki members Deidara and Tobi. With his Sharingan, he was able to counter all of Deidara's attacks, and then questioned him about Itachi. Rather than admit defeat, Deidara blew himself up, and it was only by using Manda as a shield that Sasuke managed to escape the blast. Sasuke was forced to rest afterwards but, when well enough to walk, Hebi investigated a known Akatsuki lair. There, Sasuke found Itachi.

He and his team then followed Zetsu to the meeting place. After reaching the Land of Iron, Taka discovered that it was heavily guarded, so they found a less guarded route through Jugo's ability to communicate with animals. While Taka waited for an opportunity to strike at Danzo, Zetsu infiltrated the Kage meeting and alerted them to Sasuke's presence. The Land of Iron's samurai were mobilized to capture him, but Sasuke quickly eliminated all of them. Karin noticed that Sasuke's chakra had become darker and colder than the second state of his cursed seal. Soon afterwards the Raikage emerged through the ceiling with his bodyguards. He and Sasuke proceed to fight one another. Sasuke immediately chargeed at the Raikage only to be stopped by Darui's Water Encampment Wall combined with Lightning Release: Wave of Inspiration, however as Sasuke is also a lightning user it has no effect. Jugo then informs Sasuke that they are Kumogakure Jonin and the one in the middle was the Raikage.

Karin has a fluctuating personality; she will at times appear tough and in control, and at other times will appear highly flirtatious. She annoys Suigetsu, who she attacks whenever he voices his opinion of her.

She, like many girls in Konoha before her, has a huge infatuation with Sasuke Uchiha. Her infatuation, however, is an obsession to the point of fanaticism. For example, when Hebi was resting in a village to take care of the wounde

"ravage" Sasuke's unconscious body.
She later revealed that she had kept one of Sasuke's sweat-drenched shirts.
Karin also implied that a team consisting of just her and Sasuke would be much better.
Suigetsu indicated that Karin had some history with Sasuke, but this has yet to be elaborated upon. She seems to rate men on their chakra level.

ΔβƖ˩ƖƬƖЄƧ

All of Karin's special abilities seems to derive from her excellent control of chakra. However, her level of control can be even unique. She can detect others' chakra, transfer her own chakra to heal others, and conceal her own chakra from others. As a former guard to one of Orochimaru's prisons, it is likely that Karin is a capable battler, as evidenced by her effortlessly taking down a prisoner attempting to escape.

Karin's special ability, the Mind's Eye of the Kagura, allows her to track specific individuals through chakra, seen when she is able to discern that Jugo is not among a crowd of prisoners through the standard concentration pose for molding chakra. It also allows her to pick up chakra from long distances, and notice changes in an individual's chakra. Kakashi Hatake surmised that Karin is a particularly skilled chakra-sensing ninja, as she is not only able to tell that his group is approaching, but can also sense how many of them are present, and that one is a dog. Karin's senses can also tell when a person is lying from the fluctuations in a that person's chakra from made from dishonest emotions.

Suigetsu was born in the Village of the Bloody Mist, with powers unique to his clan. Reputed to be the "reincarnation of the Kijin", Suigetsu, together with his brother, Mangetsu, dreamed to inherit the title of Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist. This acted as their motivation to finish cruel missions day by day. However, this dream was later shattered with the premature death of his brother, and Suigetsu changed his ambition to "collecting all of the swords". With the humiliation of being captured by Orochimaru, his ambition was put on hold. Karin later mocked this ambition, angering Suigetsu.

Jugo's personality is usually quiet and unassuming, but, when angered, those around him stand little chance of survival. One time, he even became so angry that he devoured an entire village. This has caused a fearful village to label him as the "Scales", where anything could tip the balance. Cursing his existence, he took to secluding himself in caves, hoping to bring no-one any harm. This lasted until Kimimaro came to him, who was himself the last remnant of his own Kaguya clan. Following Kimimaro, Jugo allowed himself to be one of Orochimaru's test subjects. Upon examination, Orochimaru was able to isolate enzymes in Jugo's blood that caused him to transform. By extracting these enzymes, Orochimaru was able to use them to produce similar, but more controlled, effects in other people, leading to the creation of the cursed seal. As time passed, Kimimaro died, then Orochimaru followed him, and Jugo shut himself away once more.

CURSED SEAL

Jugo is the very origin of the Cursed Seal, so he is able to use its powers to its full extent without it eroding his body. Also, unlike the cursed seals distributed to other people, Jugo can have many more forms to change to, as opposed to being restricted into one. He also refers to people with a Curse Seal as a copy of him.

His brief fight with Sasuke and Suigetsu revealed that Jugo can control his transformation, unlike the static effects of a standard Cursed Seal. When battling Sasuke, he changed his left arm into a piston-like ram to increase his punching power, and then altered it into a
