Rich and I first "met as part of rival dance crews in
the early 80's, and our two-steppin' rumbles
became infamous. As the original Pink Piper, Rich
would wow his crew with new moves like
"shallowkicking and "scootershaking. When I tell
you it was history in the making...Boy howdy! Well,
as time passed and we grew apart, Rich worked his
way up to middle management at the Poppycock
factory, and I began my journey selling Mel-Fry
Clear Liquid Shortening. We barely see each other
any more, but the rivalry still brews. Sometimes I
wake up in a sweat, the thought of Rich with that
pink CB Shell windbreaker, leading his crew in a
perfectly synchronized, new-romantic line dance...
and the decades old shame drenches me yet again.
Many people do not know that it was I who
gave Rich his first break in
music. He started as the organist for "Little
Angels"- the Korean
schoolgirls choral group I brought over from
Korea. Rich you were deeply
missed this year on our Cultural Peace Tour.
The girls sang several
popular tunes in English (Yes! English!) and
enchanted the audience with
their enthusiasm and warm smiles.
that he asked us to be the opening act on his 2005
"Get Rich Quick" world tour. Thanks Rich!
because he's just THAT good
money even though he doesn't need the
money .
be more than most of us can imagine but
man enough to just be Rich.
